C3 Ja 674' Everyone agrees that the fourteenth year of the Sodality of Our Lady has been an active one. The Eucharistic Committee headed by Ann Ryan and Alecia McCarthy, urged regular attendance at Mass and Communion of the third Sunday of each month, visits to the Blessed Sacrament, and also faithful attendance at the First Saturdays. Sylvia Rodriguez and Charlene Rebholz encouraged devotion to the Blessed Mother by daily rosary, keeping a scrap book of pictures of the Blessed Virgin. Canned food, stamps, soap, and coupons were collected for the poor by Eileen Goodson and Sylvia de Cordova, Committee heads for the Apostolic Committee. The Social Life Committee, headed by Ann O7Malley and Rosemary Arias, raised funds for the treasury by dances, including the "Winter Wonderland" Christmas Formal, auctions and raf- fles. Publicity for these events kept Bernadette Anlage and Mary Anne Guzman busy. A new addition, the Catholic Truth Committee, headed by Frieda Nicholas and Patricia Allison kept reports on Saints lives, Catholic books and movies. ,153 rf , ,ii Q0 Ci, ax N 5 The different Committees planned many pro- jects for the Sodalists during the year, all of which were accomplished. The whirling Friday night dances were all successful, thanks to our Social-Life Committee. Credit goes to Our Lady's Committee for seeing that the Rosary was recited at the 8 olclock Mass every morning during the month of October. The annual "lVlr. Highv Contest was a pushover and successful, thanks goes to the Pub- licity and Eucharistic Committees. The Apostolic Committee over-stepped itself as a very active Com- mittee, as it handled the raffle of the Gesu sweater to raise money for the convention. We shall ever be indebted to God and to Our Blessed Mother for the inestimable gifts bestowed on us in having allowed us to enjoy such spiritual and social advantages as we have seen this year. Another Chapter has been added to the History of the Sodality at Gesu. With great pride we look back upon the pleasant memories that this year has blessed us. We feel sure that Our Blessed Mother is now smiling down from Heaven on Her Sodality, the members of which have given Her such faithful service during the school year 1951-52. The beginning of the school year found the Sodalist enthusiastically making plans and prepara- tions for the annual Sodality convention which was held at the Princess lssena Hotel in Daytona Beach on November 21-25. This convention proved to be of great benefit to the delegates who attended. Throughout the year the boys' Sodality continued their edifying practice of having a special Sunday set aside in each month as their Communion Sun- day, at which they received the Holy Eucharist in a body. The officers and committee heads for the year were: Richard Basila, Prefectg Joseph Garvin, Vice Prefectg Charles Kacir, Secretary, Vincent Testa, Treasurerg William Brasmar, Social-Life Com- mittee, George Camus, Publicityg Frank Castellon, Our Lady'sg William Wells, Eucharisticg .lames Morris, Apostolic. Qffa 'z Hoya. The Cesu Church and School is justly proud of its Altar Boys. Winter and summer. early and late, they were there as Christ's Body Guard to serve Him faithfully and reverently. The officers for the Saint John l3erchman's Altar Boy Society. for the year 1951-52 were: President, Richard Basila: Vice President. Vincent Testa: Secretary-Treasurer. George Neff: Master of Cere- monies. James Morris. The Directress for the year was Sister Mary Herhert. The attention of the Society was focused upon one of its higgest tasks of the year. the serving of Midnight Mass. Preparation for this momentous occasion was begun weeks in advance. Only those who were faithful to their appointments were al- lowed the privilege of serving at special events. lloly Week was next on the Societyis list of serv- ices for the year. The solemn ceremonies during this week required three days and now movement must he learned. linder the guidance of Sister Mary llerhert. this task was easily accomplished as prov- en hy the fact that the boys did a fine joh in serving at these heautiful functions. The picnic was given to the Altar Boys at the end of the year hy Father llruhan. to reward them for their fine services for the past year. We are all grateful to Sister Mary Herbert for her patience in directing the Society through a very successful vear. lt f A4 r f' " Left to right: Charlene Rebholz, Diana Gonzales, Carmen Barkett. The Key Club is simply an organization of the Key Boys from the Sopho- more, Junior and Senior classes. lt is under the sponsorship of the Kiwanis Club and functions in much the same manner. The objects of the Key Club are: 1. To develop initiative and leadership. 2. To provide experience in living and working together. 3. To serve the school and community. 4. To cooperate with the school principal. 5. To prepare for useful citizenship. Each year the Key Club has the pleasant task of selecting the Key Club Sweetheart. This year after a close vote this honor was bestowed upon lovely Ann 0'lVlalley and she was crowned at the ball given in her honor. Four equally pretty Keyettes were chosen to make up her court. They were Rosemary Arias, Carolyn Conrey, Lois Caufield and Berna- dine Lallo. The Key Club wishes to extend a note of thanks to the faculty, our Kiwanis sponsors and to the students of Gesu for the cooperation it has received this year. lts members will always strive to live up to the Key Club motto: s'Better Citizens Today, A Better World Tomorrow."-We build too. The xarsity this year was comprised of Dickie Clough Joe Garvin, Billy Wells, Fernando Storch. Johnny Camus John Matson Floyd Brumby and Jimmie Morris Seniors. The two Juniors were Lowell Balthaser and George Neff. QUL5. The catching of letterman Fernando Storch f.333D and the double play combination of "Chico,' Rodriguez f.280l and, Dickie Clough l.220l led the Crusaders. Rounding out last yearls team were Larry Maggio. Raymond Kayal, George Neff, Joseph Byrnes, and last year's graduates were Kenny Bush, Al Setlin, Gilbert Paez, Gene Gunn. The purple and white Crusaders won five out of nine games. ogfaffefzmem .280 ff A jf X x W The Crusaderettes opened their 1952 basketball season with a new coach some new players and various tricky new plays The Seniors dominated the team The backbone of the squad was our point-making combination of Dora Mendoza Alecia McCar- thy Charlene Rebholz and Les Collins. We registered and after a long wait we got the keys to our rooms. My. weren't they cute and com- fortable!!! That night we had the "Get Acquainted Dance." where we met kids from all over the state. The next day and the days that fol- lowed. we started by going to Mass and Communion. The schedule called for two meetings in the morning and two in the afternoon. but at first this seemed so boring-gwe wanted to take pictures, to have fun! ! After we attended the first meeting we realized how important and interesting they really were. Not all the time in Daytona was spent in meetings. ln between all our sightseeing, we found time to attend the Apologetical Contest on Thursday night, the talent show on Friday night, and the banquet and dance on Satur- day night. The Convention for this year has Colne and gone. but the work for next year is just starting. Gesu has always had a high standard at every Sodality Convention and it is up to the Coming Sodalists to keep this standard high. f me eczfzf 5? cm Z cfwmzi YOLANDA BORNOTY Crusader Queen CAROLYN CONREY and LEF CAILEY MARY ANNE GUZMAN and RICHARD BASILA Chrlstmas Formal Chrlstmas Formal SYLVIA RODRIGUEZ and GILBERT PAEZ LESBIA COLLINS and BOB COX and DATES Jumor Senlor Prom .Iumor Senior Prom w w, - ,.- 5, Q '. 1 I I1 FIELD DAY BASHFUL??
