The winner of this game was to receive the Grove Theater trophy. The game was played in the rain and mud with Gering managing to squeeze a 12-6 victory over the Tigers and take the trophy. Competition was rugged throughout the year as most of the teams in the valley had improved over last year. Therefore Gering was only able to eke out a five wins, four loss record. 5 45-543, 354532552 qw' W? The squad lost out in the first round of the district tournament to Chadron by a score of 49-52. Gering floored an excellent all around team in the rebounding of Rodney Dowell, big centerg in a fiery guard, Larry Whiting, who displayed brilliant playmaking on the floor, in Carroll Pyle, forward, with his remarkable set-shooting and tip-ins, in hardworking Dale Henderickson, forward, whose dead-eye shots contributed to many a victory, in guard long shots from mid court, and his deceptive ball handling. We had many very capable reserves who kept the home fire burning when the going was rough. In statistics department, five boys hit over 60 per cent of their free throws for the total season. They were led by Larry Whiting who hit 72 per cent of his free throws. Carroll Pyle, Rodney Dowell, and Dale Henderickson led in Bulldogs in season scoring.
