With many experienced contestants, the competition was very stiff, but ten girls, five seniors and five juniors, were finally chosen to make up the following year's line. The girls worked many long and hard hours, perfecting their routines, as the rest of the country could testify to when watching the line perform two differ- ent times at the Gerard football games that were televised on a nation- wide cable station. Through the lead- ership of captain Claire Friend, the girls learned to work together and shared each other's ideas and feel- ings. 86 Claire Friend, captain

Freshmen Come Together The line cheers for the freshman football players. Kris Sanders, captain. Coming together for the first time is hard, but the girls on the Freshman Cheer line made it easy. Under the leadership of Kris Sanders, the girls recognized their role as cheerleaders in representing the freshman class and cheering for the freshman foot- ball and basketball teams. The girls worked hard together and showed that they share the true Redcoat spir- it with the rest of the JV and Varsity lines. 85
