The team went to the State Championships, largely because of outstanding players like Lisa Jan- kovsky, who played shortstop and outfield, and powerful hitters like Bridgette Moya and Marta Ortiz. Though the girls have had difficulties in obtaining high-quality equipment and uniforms. they have been very fortunate to have Sandy Cox as a coach, who came from Griffith Ele- mentary School to Gerard with fif- teen years of experience. An impor- tant factor in the good performances of the team is the fact that among the members exists unity, close friend- ships, good sportsmanship. spirit, and enthusiasm. 75
