This year's Girls' Varsity Basket- ball team was one of the youngest Ge- rard has ever had. The team was com- prised mostly of sophomores, with about half as many seniors, no ju- niors, and one freshman. Despite the difficulties the girls encountered at the start of the season, the attitude, school spirit, and dedication of these inexperienced team members paid off, as they continued to improve through the season. Their skills were clearly displayed at the Kingman game, which they won with the score of 45-34. Buckeye was one of their toughest opponents, but with other teams, such as number-one ranked Independence, they proved to be wor- thy and overpowering contenders. This game was truly an earned victo- ry, as Julie Falconer scored the win- ning point during an overtime. At the end of the season, the girls were appreciative of the valuable ex- perience they had gained, which will undoubtedly show next year. Dennis Kmetko Armand Chavez holds his opponent twisted Jim Mack struggles to escape. Wrestlers ave Full Team This year marked the first year in quite some time that Gerard has had a full team. The team was fairly strong and showed a lot of potential. Wrestling was open to a new coach this year, other than just Mr. Mallet, and that coach was Mr. Acedo. Had it not been for the awesome but brutal throw that he received when practic- ing with l 19-pound Armand Chavez, he might have enjoyed the season a lot more.
