TA TE CHAMPS.f This year's Varsity Baseball Team took it all the way. They had an overall record of 22-2 with a 10-0 record in Conference play. They began the year with a C14-31 victory against Dysart and had a four game winning streak beating Peoria C8-OJ, Winslow Q1 l- 2J and again 14- l J. The first game of the season that they lost was by a narrow margin C4-53 to Indepen- dence. They came back, however, and crushed them in a Q7-OJ victory. The Redcoats won their next two games against Globe L2-OJ and Mingus C5-45. In the Brophy Tournament the team annihilated AAA Apollo C20-OJ, but then lost to Brophy C0-25 for their last loss of the season. The Redcoats went on the rampage beating Gilbert Q6-23, Bourgade C8- lj, Corona Cl l-33, Cactus C7-55, Peoria Cl l-25, Dy- sart C7-lj, Mingus C10-45, Gilbert C5-25, Bourgade Q12-25, Corona C7-OJ, and Globe C5-23. In the State Quarter Finals the Redcoats beat Flowing Wells C3-23. In the Semi-finals the team nipped Flagstaff C6-55, and in the Finals they beat Lake Havasu Q8-51 at Tempe Diablo Stadium to become AA State Champs. The team was led this year by Senior captains: Steve Kmetko and Tony Mattia. The MVP was ace pitcher Tom Sizer. First Team All-Conference were Tom Sizer - pitcher, Tony Mattia - lst base, Steve Kmetko - short stop, Doug Bradley - out- fielder and Tom Knudsen - utility.
