With only three seniors fDenise Cal- cagno, Donna Baker, and Debbie DeJu- liaj, the team lacked the proper exper- ience to be a dominating force in a very tough conference. With all these factors forced upon them, the girls seemed to draw a little closer together. Gerard can be proud of the determi- nation that the girls showed during each one of the games. This determination was evident in the progress that was at- tained as the year came to a close. In the last two weeks, the Varsity 'Coats beat Globe in an away game and Bourgade at home. The Globe game was a big one because we had never beaten the Tigers at Globe in the last five years. The victories over Glove and Bour- gade were a twist in faith because we tied for third, which placed us in the same category as Mingus, the number one team. In the first round of the Divi- sionals, the 'Coats played Globe in a tre- mendous battle in which two overtimes were taken before the Tigers from Globe defeated Gerard. Even though they lost in double overtime in the games against Mingus and Globe, they made the opposing teams work for their wins. The team also had a special closeness and each looked out for the other. Throughout the season, they helped each other to try and reach their full potential. The team was coached by Jan Dreffs, who stat- ed that the team hustled and worked hard all year.
