71 HONORS IN SPCRTS What makes a Gerard athlete so special? That's easy! The answer can be found by looking in on a practice. At Gerard there were endless hours of practice, and then when the athletes thought they were about to col- lapse, they looked up and saw more practice ahead of them. But that didn't matter. During those grueling sessions there was much more going on inside that athlete than just physical movement. He was developing himself into a sportsman, into a teammate, into someone we could admire. Gerard athletes worked hard at their sports, and their games proved it. lf nothing else, they ran out energeti- cally, looking like a team, proudly wearing a Redcoat uniform. Their spirit never seemed to dampen, and the object of their game was not only to be the best, but to do their best.
