Varsity Ends Season ith 14 wins With only four letterman from last year's squad position the 1978-79 Redcoat Basketball Team looked young and lacking the needed experi- ence. Afterfour weeks ofpre-season con- ditioning the Roundballers were pre- pared to face their beginning exhibi- tion play. The Redcoats participated in the Globe Christmas Tournament and went 1-2. Returning from that the Redcoats faced tough conference com- petition. But the young team built up a strong club staying at the top of the conference rating throughout the sea- son. 12 Coach Looney shows a sign of disappoint ment. 22 Coach Looney and the varsity team say a prayer before the game.

Team Has An Inspiring Season The Varsity volleyball tearn expe- rienced a better season this year as they inade the divisional playoyfs for the jhlrst tiine, and carne in third place during their 1978 fall season. They were awarded noniination to the Arnerican Association of High School Athletes. Sandy Butts, an enthusiastic nzeinber and co-captain of the Var- sity teain, won a place in All State, and Carolyn Karbo, also co-captain, and Meg Mc Vey both received honor- able inention. Sandy received the Ontstanding Offensive Player Award, and Carolyn the Ont- standing Defensive Player Award. Barb Savage was the captain for the Jiinior Varsity teain, and Denise Calcagno was chosen the Best Player. This teain is inore of a warm-cup teain that holds its gaines just before the Varsity tearn plays. They are en- thusiastic and proud of their tearn. 5 53
