Vars1ty Acqunfes 254 Total Season The Redcoats started their season by shutting out Apache Junction 21- 0. Mark Titus's receiving helped the team in the win. In the second non-conference game, Gerard went on to beat Tolleson 35-7, with Chris Rawlings leading in de- fense. Gerard sujfered a close loss to Peo- ria 21-22 in the third game of the season, although great efforts were made by the defense to hold them. In the jirst game of the conference, Gerard went against their rival Gil- bert. The Redcoats were unfortu- nately upset by Gilbert 6-13 while Matt Malenfant put the only points up for Gerard. Gerard proved the dominant force when they wiped out Corona del Sol 42-14. Great ejforts were given by the defense, and Mike Knudsen's 290 yards helped the Wense. Again Gerard came out with the victory against Globe, with a total of fense of 321 yards. The Redcoats again this year put away the Bourgade Eagles, 41-20. Mike Lane's 11 times carrying the ball and Mark Turner's 6 completed passes aided in the win. The last game of the season for Ge- rard was against Mingus. Once again Gerard came out ahead 26-7 with great rushing efforts by Steve Schwan and Mike Knudsen totaling 322 yards. Gerard ended the season with a record of 7-2. The successful season was helped by the strong Redcoat de- fense and the outstanding running and catching ability of the offense. 11 The Redcoats sing the fight song after a tri- umph. 21 Coach Carroll sends Joe Krell in with a play. 1 2 2 i 431
