December was a hectic month of mixed emotions. While students were looking forward to the joys of the holi- day season, they were bombarded with last minute homework to wrap up the semester and were faced with the prospect of upcoming finals. Meanwhile, basketball season started of with a bang as the Red- coats embarked on their usual win- ning streak, and fans supported them with all the spirit they could muster. The Junior class also spon- sored a terrific Christmas dance which was casualfsingles, a theme which was the choice of a student body vote. Before they had a chance to recu- perate from New Years, the student body was welcomed back to school from an eventful vacation. With their New Year's resolutions in mind, students put themselves in a positive frame of mind as they faced a new and challenging semester. Can anyone think of anything bet- ter to do in the dead ofwinter than go skiing? That's what a group of Ski Club members had in mind as they embarked on the annual ski trip to Purgatory, Colorado. The group went by buses and vans and spent three days hitting the slopes. Despite a number of transportation conflicts, the trip was a tremendous success and everyone had a great time. Finals Mark Unpleasant the Holidays. 3 22

This year's Sweetheart activities took a new turn with the onset of a brand new tradition. Due to the bas- ketball game against arch-rival Bourgade that was scheduled during Sweetheart week, Student Council decided to plan something special. The Sweetheart activities were to take on the format of Homecoming, with a funfilled spirit week preced- ing the night of the game and dance. All week long, each class decked out the school with posters, decorations, etc. according to a' chosen theme on their given day. Each class put forth a lot of pride and ejlort, but the Ju- niors edged out the rest as they put on the winning spirit day. On the Friday of the game, the whole school united to show their Redcoats that they're behind them all the way. The conclusion of spirit week was topped off with a Student Council balloon sale and a pep rally. On the night of the game, the Red- coats showed the Bourgade Eagles what pride was all about. As usual, they played a first-rate game and wrapped it up with a dazzling 81-72 win. The icing on the cake was the Sweetheart dance held directly after the game. Put on by the Seniors, it was set in a more casual mood as it was a singles dance as opposed to the crruples tradition. The climax of the evening was when the twelve outstanding Juniors nominated anxiously awaited the crowning of the Sweetheart royalty. The candidates for King were: David Bresnahan, James Gourley, Mike Henry, Louis Rodriguez, Dan Smith, and Chuck Wahlheim. The Queen nominees were: Jean Ajamie, Angela Ashford, Marty Glenn, Terri Hen- zerling, Beth Sack, and Marianne Vandenberg. Although it was a dijfi- cult choice, Terri Henzerling and Dan Smith were voted by the student body as Sweetheart King and Queen. 24
