H Fosters Valuable Qualities The National Honor Society is in- deed just thatg it is a national orga- nization which recognizes and honors outstanding students in the areas of character, leadership, scholarship and service. This year the society has tried to uphold all of these qualities by en- couraging the members to keep good grades and become involved in some sort of community or school service. This may be tutoring a younger stu- dent or volunteering to work with handicapped children. Money which the NHS makes through various sales or by selling concessions at the gun show may go to support projects such as a scholar- ship fund for an incoming Gerard freshman, or used to finance an ac- tivity planned by one Qf the NHS committees. In order to get members more in- volved, the club was divided into four committees. The four committees are the social committee, the field-trip committee, the service committee, and the special committee. When meetings arise every first Tuesday of the month, members divide up into their committees and plan projects for the whole group. The Juniors and Seniors who be- long to NHS have many rewards. One presentation which they enjoyed was a visit from a Devil's Advocate from Arizona State University who came to speak to those NHS members interested in college life. The NHS seal has a special mean- ing to those students who belong to the National Honor Society. They have been inducted into this society because of their character, scholar- ship, leadership and service. With these qualities being honored and promoted, the members will hold strong values long after they gradu- ate from Gerard. 1 102 2 NATION I. SOCIETY
