Civil Engineering i Harold Hush Hrown A.B., M.Arch. Head of the Department of .1 rehiterture nr ' HE course in Architecture has hegun its twentieth year at Georgia Tech. The g rowth in this department has been amazing during the past years and has exemplified this fact by its necessity to in- crease the facilities in order to meet the large need. The sincere purpose of the Department is to offer the necessary training in Design, Construction, and the associated subjects that will eventually tit the student for the practice of Architecture. This course ex- tends over four years and leads to the de- gree of Bachelor of Science in Architecture. Regarded as a Fine Art, it serves to in- troduce and maintain the beauty of the profession to the student. Franklin C. Snow C.E., Sc.D. Head of the Department of Civil Engineering; ' nr HE ultimate aim of the Civil Engineer- - ■ ing course at Tech is to teach the fundamentals in each branch and to so in- struct the student that his B.S. degree stands for basic knowledge in every line of Civil Engineering. The Civil Engineer is a builder. He uses asphalt, concrete, clay, sand, steel, stone, and numerous other structural ma- terials in building pa ements, roads, bridges, etc. A graduate in Civil Engineering must be well informed in mathematics, especially mechanics, in order to design. He must know how to select and to use materials, locate sewers, lay out structures, railroads, and streets so that his designs can be carried into finished products. Page Tu-enty-seven
