Setter Teacher FOR BETTER SCHOOLS FOR A BETTER GEORG! E D I C A T I O Of all the influences on our lives as college students, we know of none so pleasant nor so effective as those individual ' s whom we feel possess greatness of character. Our association with Miss Johnson has enhanced our roles as students. Studying under her direction has broadened our visions and enlightened our minds. Her friendliness has brightened many an hour, and the qualities she radiates have made us better men and women. Her constant readiness to contribute to the improvement of student activities will remind us in the years ahead that there are always those who care. Her friendship will, we earnestly hope, continue to influence our lives for many years to come. Future encounters with elegance and refinement will instinctively bring to many of us warm memories of Miss Ela. Because we believe she, as a teacher and an individual, possesses those qualities worthy of our constant emulation, we dedicate this Reflector to Miss Ela Johnson — with admiration, gratitude, and affection. In Memoriam For almost a quarter of a century, Miss Mamie was a mother to the girls who came to school at our col- lege. Miss Mamie loved the college through all its years of progress — dur- ing its years of struggle. And we ' re sure that every girl who came under her care is today a better woman for it. Miss Mamie is being missed at Teachers College. All those who knew her and loved her miss her. 10 11 f We met the ADMINISTRATION L3 PAUL F. Planning is one of the most im- portant parts of the production of the paper. Here, Joe Axelson, fall quarter editor; Larry Hyde, news ed- itor; Britt Fayssoux, spring quarter editor, and Carlton Humphrey, winter quarter editor, get things in shape for a weekly publication. Writing the News . . . Larry is giving instructions to a group of reporters working on their stories. As soon as the stories are completed, the copy goes to the news desk where the five wheels round it into final shape. The re- porters are Joyce Kirkland, Lewis W. Strickland, Sandra Hanson, Jane Jackson, Lowell Russell, Babs Wis- enbaker, and Gene Boston. Preparing the Copy . . . To the right you ' ll see that Britt and Larry do get around. Here they are passing out handwritten stories to typists Elian Brandon, Barbara McAfee, and Mary Lee Quarter- man, who grind out the typed copy. Here A The £twif Heads Present Problems . . . Writing the headlines is one of the biggest lobs in the production of the paper. Joe, Betty Watson, Ellen Blizzard, Carlton Humphrey, and Jennie Faye Morgan will attest that fact. It ' s frustrating, but it ' s a challenge — to tell a whole story in a half-dozen words. At the Printer ' s . . . The GEORGE-ANNE is printed each week by Leodel Coleman, editor and publisher of the BULLOCH HERALD He is shown here with business manager Gene Meadows and Carlton as they make a last- minute proof correction at the big newspaper press in the Herald plant downtown. It ' s Out . . . It ' s always a good feeling each Friday when the paper is printed and delivered. Here Roy F. Powell, faculty advisor, with Nella Shepard and Joanne Hill examine the finished product. 49 EAST HALL HOUSE COUNCIL OFFICERS JOANNE HILL President PATSY PAGE Vice-President JANIS MILLER Secretary-Treasurer MRS. Dear Students, This is your book of memories. On these pages we have tried to preserve the experience of a year spent on the Sweetheart campus. a year filled with unforgettable experiences - experiences which can never again be had but only recalled - ir. the library nd Blue Tide, clubs and meetings, specie! dates, athletic events, long awaited letters . Out of the student body of 3TC oomes the staff of the 1S56 Refl ec tor  This staff has worked many long, hard hours to produce this book. You, the students, have made the events, and we, the staff, have recorded them for posterity for you to recall ir. the years to come. We have been unable to capture in words and pictures many of the intangible experiences which are a vital part of college - last- ing friendships, spiritual growth, knowledge acquired, new hopes, and ideals. But it is our sincere desire triat in this, the 19b6 edition, the moments special to each of you have been memorable preserved so that when viewed in the years to come this book will bring back ten- der memories of the days you spent on the Sweetheart campus. publishing a yearbook is hard work, nevertheless we have en loved every moment of the time spent to give it to you.
