By devoting so much of his free time to writing and directing plays, he has enabled many to share in his achievements. Mr. Hartley has won the hearts of the entire student body by his continual humor, quick wit, and expressions both in and out of the classroom. He has been especially appreciated by the Class of ’68 because of his guidance and assistance in a variety of projects these past four years. The Buffalo Staff would like to thank you, Mr. Hartley, for all that you have done for Os. ORGANIZATIONS ... Girls Athletic Executive Committee: From Top: Senior — Gloria Bradfield; Freshman-Francine Gay. Left: Sophomore—Shelia Wyer. Right: Junior—Patty Gas-ior. G.A.A. Being one of the largest and most active clubs around G.H.S., Girls Athletic Association has experienced many adventures in 1967-68. One of their most exciting events was the sleepless slumber party.” Mrs. Rooney was a long time in recovering from this. Next came bowling and it was decided winners each week would get their games paid for. Second semester a new sponsor, Miss McPherson, came to G.H.S. After she finally got to know all of the girls, the fun was back in full swing again. As spring came along, the sweatshirt sale went on with the sale of PJ’s too. A banquet was given to honor the best athletes in softball, bowling, basketball, and volleyball. So finished an exciting, enjoyable year. Association Front Row, Sitting: P. Brown, J. Jones, N. Georgetown Chapter FFA The Georgetown Future Farmers of America completed a very successful year. The Chapter numbered 38 members this year with 13 greenhands, 12 sophomore Chapter farmers, and 13 junior and senior Chapter farmers. The First competition for the Chapter was the land use contest, which Georgetown won. Team members were Alan Prib-ble, Albert Jordan, Curt Simpson, Ed Noggle and Everett Rogers. The contest was held at Chrisman, Illinois, with all 13 section 18 Chapters participating. The Georgetown Chapter was also victorious in the sectional parliamentary procedure contest with Clay Newlin, Ed Noggle, Alan Daniel, Albert Jordan, and Alan Pribble comprising the Georgetown team. Ed Noggle was First chairman. Clay Newlin First secretary, and Alan Daniel First floor member. Thanksgiving found the Chapter contributing $30 towards a food donation for a needy family in our community. This was repeated at Christmas. December 9 was the section 18 grain judging contest held at Oakwood. Georgetown’s team of Alan Daniel, Russell Swaim, Ken Noggle, and Leroy Stephenson placed sixth. Ken Noggle was the section 18 tractor safety champion for the second consecutive year winning a beautiful silver trophy. February was a busy month for the Chapter. Three Georgetown FFA members won FFA foundation Plaques with Walt Newell capturing Farm Mechanics; Ken Noggle, Farm Safety; and Albert Jordan, Sheep Production Award. In addition, Georgetown members comprised three of the section’s ten State Farmer Degree winners with Ed Noggle, Alan Daniel, and Ken Noggle receiving the highest degree conferred by the state FFA association. Alan Daniel was the Chapter’s entry in the section 18 public speaking contest. Alan overcame obstacles ranging from misinformation as to date of the contest and length of speech manuscript and placed Fifth in the prepared speaking contest. Alan’s speech was concerned with the marketing of soybeans. April 18 found the Chapter’s dairy team consisting of Ever- ett Rogers, Steve Thompson, Jim Jordan, and Charles Rhoden placing sixth in the contest held at Tall Timbers Ayrshire farm at Bismarck. Charles Rhoden was seventh high individual in the dairy contest. April 20 was the date of the Chapter’s Larry Lujack dance, a Financial disaster. This dance, planned to complete the funds needed for the Chapter’s college scholarship ended in an $80 loss to the Chapter. Leroy Stephenson led the Chapter in raffle sales and the Chapter grossed $924 on its second raffle. May 11 was the Chapter’s family potluck banquet with 140 people attending. Ed Noggle won the Chapter college scholarship and scholarship pin. Bob Winland was voted the star greenhand and named the Chapter farm manager for 1968. Curt Simpson received the Chapter leadership pin and Everett Rogers the DeKalb Award. Mrs. Vera Simpson was named the honorary Chapter sweetheart while Maurice Simpson. Everett Rogers, Arthur Sellers, and Don Davis were named honorary Chapter farmers. Dan Lehman of section 14 was the principal speaker and Tom Johnson, Illinois FFA president, was also a guest of the Chapter at the banquet. The Georgetown FFA livestock judging team won the sectional livestock judging contest on May 18. This marked the Fifth consecutive livestock judging victory for the Georgetown Chapter. Team members were Ed Noggle, Curt Simpson, Albert Jordan, and Dennis Collins. Individually, Ed Noggle, Curt Simpson, and Dennis Collins were third, fourth, and seventh in competition with the 40 sectional FFA members participating. The Georgetown Chapter is proud of its accomplishments during the past 12 months. We are, however, looking forward to an even more fruitful year in 1968 and 1969. It is the Firm commitment of the Georgetown Chapter of Future Farmers of America that we exist as an agricultural organization to further the cause of agriculture as an occupation and as a way of life. We are dedicated to the idea that He who serves agriculture, serves all mankind.” These members won awards: Curt Simpson, Leadership Award; Albert Jordan, Foundation Award in Sheep; Bob Winland, Star Greenhand; Ed Noggle, Scholarship, State Farmer Degree and Chapter Star Farmer; Ken Noggle. State Farmer Degree and Foundation Award in Farm Safety; Everett Rogers, DeKalb Award; Alan Daniel, State Farmer Degree. Not pictured is Walter Newell who won the Foundation Award in Farm Mechanics. Student Council The Student Council is the representative of our student body, and each year they try to accomplish more to make our school better. The Homecoming Parade and Dance are the biggest events that the Student Council sponsors every year. The decorating of the Christmas Tree and the annual Christmas charity box during the holiday season are other projects. During the past year the Student Council participated in a student exchange program with Jamaica. This benefited not only our school but their school as well. Three assemblies on varied topics were presented during the year by the Student Council. The first was the Wonderful World of Words”; second, a young singer, Tommy Lane; and third, a group of trampoline artists. Through its efforts the Student Council hopes to make Georgetown High School outstanding in its achievements. 12 NH.S. Initiates 10 New Members Miss Heiberger, advisor; V. Jackson; S. Linder; T. Their eligibility is then considered on their service, leadership, and character by members of the faculty. A member must maintain the standards for membership in order to remain in the society. It is hoped that the presence of the National Honor Society chapter at G.H.S. creates an enthusiasm for scholarship, stimulates a desire to render service, promotes worthy leadership, and encourages the development of character in students. New members: Teresa Wolff; Sheila Wver; Jan-ine Tintorri; LaDonna Mitchell; lx retta Mitchell; Ronna Grider; Verlene Taylor; Jan Galyen; Jennifer Debenham; Deborah Dooley. 13 Drama Club Learns from Experience Front Row: J. Drama Club began its activities for the year with the initiation of new members. Paper masks were worn around the greenies” necks, and they were required to learn certain information about theater. The club also participated in a toothbrush sale with the Speech Club and attended a production of the Danville Light Opera. Two plays were given by the Drama Club this year; one at Christmas and the other in the spring. One of the many things learned by Drama Club members is to be prepared for anything during a play. This point was seen especially clear when Santa Claus lost his pants in the middle of the Christmas play. The Drama Club teaches many things about speech and acting and is enjoyed by all who like theater. 14 Chess Club Members Find a Challenge Seated: S. Williams, S. Wyer, T. Wolff, C. Whiteside, S. This was fun for them and rewarding in many ways. Spanish Club also sponsored a queen candidate for the Women’s Club Style Show again this year. The Georgetown High School Spanish Club is continuing to be a big success and is always providing new and exciting things to do for its members. 17 FHA. Looks Toward Tomorrow Front Row: J. Pin, pennant, and pillow sales were held and advertisements were sold. Lack of sufficient funds discontinued the printing by Business Industrial Printers of Danville. With the help of the office practice class, the paper was mimeographed after the first two issues. These were displayed in the cafeteria and on players’ lockers. During the week of Homecoming, some of the Club’s members painted slogans and signs on the windows of downtown business establishments. Also, a wagon filled with cheering students took part in the Homecoming Parade. All of these activities added much to the school’s spirit. The defensive squad intercepted four passes and recovered two Hoopeston fumbles to set up two of our touchdowns. It was a fine team effort, although the coaches and players were not satisfied with the second-half performance. ROCKVILLE The Georgetown gridders compiled 375 yards in scoring a 34-6 win at Rockville. Georgetown showed fine offensive punch by scoring in every quarter, while the defense remained strong throughout the game. CENTRAL OF CLIFTON Our third victory was won in a come-from-behind 12-6 victory over a tough Central team. Even though Georgetown gained 261 yards while the defense limited Central to 139 yards, the winning score did not come until the fourth quarter. NORTH VERMILLION The Buffaloes rolled over a highly ranked Indiana squad in registering a 14-0 homecoming victory over North Vermillion. The defense played well as the Falcons were limited to seven first downs and 91 yards rushing while not completing a pass. Georgetown, scoring in the first and fourth quarters, again gained over 300 yards on 10 first downs. Even though the statistics seem impressive, the Buffalo gridders played one of their poorer games. CLINTON Georgetown garnered its sixth victory by defeating Clinton, 27-0. After a poor, scoreless first half, the inspired Buffaloes exploded for one TD in the third quarter and three in the fourth. Clinton was limited to two first downs and 30 yards gained. SCHLARMAN Georgetown earned its seventh victory in a hard-fought, 10-6 triumph over the previously undefeated Hilltoppers. Joe Kazokaitis scored our only TD wrhile George Wolff booted the PAT and a 22-yard field goal. Both teams had 12 first downs while the Buffs netted 266 yards to Schlarman’s 196 yards. Georgetown was penalized 61 yards and the Toppers were penalized 10 yards. WESTVILLE G.H.S. retained the coal bucket by overcoming a 13-6 half time deficit to win 19-13. Alan Daniel passed for all three touchdowns as the Buffs rolled up 287 yards and 12 first downs. The Tigers netted 101 yards and 6 first downs. The winning TD came on a 21-yard pass play with only 31 seconds remaining in the game. OAKWOOD The Buffs completed the fifth undefeated season in Georgetown history by tallying twice in the fourth quarter to beat the upset-minded Comets, 19-6. First and foremost, we would like to extend our thanks to the teachers of G.H.S. They have not only inspired us to learn all we can but have also endeavored to prepare us for the many responsibilities of life. Next, we would like to thank the people of the community for their support and cooperation with the school throughout the year. For without the support of the community, the school would be unable to enjoy many of its activities. The students of G.H.S. also are to be thanked for their support. We hope to please all of our customers” with the work we have done. One of the biggest thanks we have to extend is to the area businessmen for their willingness to advertise in our yearbook. Without the aid of these businesses, we would not be able to produce a yearbook at all. As we end a year of fun and hard work on the Yearbook Staff, we wish to extend our best of luck” to the staff of next year. We hope that Rita and Randy have an exciting, profitable year as the new editors. Now, as we say good-bye to our high school years and go on to higher goals and greater achievements, we say, We’ll never forget you, G.H.S.” 154 1968 Buffalo Staff
