He usually has the job done before anyone calls for his helping hand. The Yearbook Staff would especially like to thank him for his help with our concession stand. Even though Mr. Snyder is not a teacher he contributes much to the learning process of this school through his cheerful manner and hard work. We hope that with this dedication, Charlie ' we have expressed our gratitude and appreciation. Proudly Dedicate This Yearbook To: Mr. Smith His untiring efforts to help the student body in every way which he deemed possible is one of the reasons that we chose Mr. Smith. So to you, Mr. Smith, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks and gratitude for the helpful guidance and knowledge you have offered us through our high school years. — ''We're loyal to you, GHS We're purple and white, GHS We'll back you to stand, Against the best in the land, For we know you can stand, GHS Rah Rah So throw out that ball, GHS We're backing you all, GHS Our team is our famed protector, On boys for we expect A victory from you, GHS Cha-he Cha-ha Cha-ha-ha-ha — Our battle cry Cha-he Cha-ha Cha-ha-ha-ha — Go Georgetown High! Class Colors Light blue, Dark blue Class Flower Yellow rose Dick Whit© worked hard to support his class for the post two years os president. Charles Sollars had a busy year as treasurer keeping count of the senior money and bills. . « Wally Crook did a good job for his class by backing up Dick as vice-president. 14 Barb Ehrich was secretary of her class and did a fine job. The Senior Executive Committee from left to right: Jeff Newlin, Mr. Robert Benjamin, advisor, Karen Daulton, Bob Almy, Gory Davis, Vicki Daulton, Cynthia Yoho, and Mrs. Doris Humrichous, advisor. As our senior year drew slowly to a close, we, as seniors, realized that we would soon be saying farewell to G.H.S. The trials and tribulations we had faced during our years here seemed small compared to the number of happy moments we had experienced. Words could not express the feelings in every mind and heart as graduation approached. With the thought of graduation came the knowledge that each senior would be beginning a new phase of his or her life. Our senior class motto, Today is our accomplishment. Tomorrow is our goal, suggests that every senior would be setting new goals to strive for after graduation. Graduation is now only a memory, but it is the memory of a goal which was accomplished. 15 KENNETH ACORD SANDRA KAY ARTMAN Sandy Pastime: Dancing, swimming, ice-skating, and dating, being with Mike DON'T FORGET I STILL LOVE YOU Would ya believe Ambition: To become a nurse Band 1,2; Chorus 1,2; Spanish Club 2; Buffalo Echo 4, GAA 1,2,3,4; Pep Club 1,2,3,4; FTA 3,4; Buffalo Staff 4; Spring Show 1,2; Bond representative 2; Chorus representative 1 16 ROBERT LOUIS ALMY, JR. Many sophomores were given the chance to take their place in the adult world when they received their driver's license. This was one more step on the road to completing their high school years successfully. MAC BALL CHARLIE SNYDER ROLLIE HOWE When the students arrived at school, they always found it to be warm and clean. This was due to the efforts of our custodians who worked hard all year at their regular jobs and various other ones. Among these other jobs were the driving of the school buses and additional repairing and remodeling of the old building and gym. The Buffalo Staff says thank you to the custodians from the students and teachers. 58 ORGANIZATIONS This year's advisors are: Mrs. Collins, Mrs. Flory, Mr. Call; Seniors: B. Davis, D. White, B. The Student Council Is an organization composed of representatives from each class, which are selected by the entire student body. The purpose of Student Council is to serve as a governmental body, ruling over the students, and to discuss and decide upon issues presented to it by the student body. Several events are sponsored annually by the Student Council. Among them are: the Homecoming Parade and Dance, the purchase and decoration of the school's Christmas tree, the presentation of a care package during the Holiday Season, and the presentation of several entertaining assemblies throughout the school year. Each year things seem to improve a little. This year the Student Council did something different! With the cooperation of Catlin High School's Student Council an exchange student from Catlin was able to visit our school for one week and a student from Georgetown journeyed to Catlin High School, also for one week. Let's hope that future members of the Student Council will try to remember the accomplishments of the members in the past and will put forth every effort to improve upon the Student Council and make it better than before. 60 Library Club's Bookstore Aids Students First row: Gloria Bradfield, Cothy Whiteside, Mrs. Steele— Advisor, Debbie Freeman, Terry Bina. To maintain active membership in the club, it was necessary to maintain passing grades as well as work two or three periods a week in the library. They sponsored a sock hop after the basketball game on Dec. 16. They also undertook the responsibility of managing a paperback book store in the library as a convenience to students and faculty alike. At the fall Executive Council meeting of the Student Librarians of East Central Illinois at Manteno in October, Georgetown Library Club accepted the responsibility for the program for the spring meeting of SLECI which was held at Hoopeston on March 18. Just before Christmas a complete catalog revision project was undertaken by the club and sponsor and was completed during the second semester. At the time the picture of the officers was taken they were: Gloria Bradfield, Secretary; Cathy Whiteside, President; Mrs. Steele, Advisor; Debbie Freeman, Vice-President; Terry Bina, Treasurer. 61 Members of National Honor Society Seated, left to right: Terry Luster, Cindy Yoho, Karen Daulton, Phyllis Barr, Barb Ehrich, Wally Crook. The National Honor Society has as its goal the following qualities: To create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate desire to render service, to promote worthy leadership, and to encourage the development of character in the students of Georgetown High School. At the end of the second semester, students who had accumulated a 4.2 grade point average or higher were rated by the faculty on leadership, service, and character. The students who received a high enough rating were made provisional members of the National Honor Society at its induction ceremony. At this ceremony the provisional members of the preceding year were made active members, providing they had retained the qualities required to become an active member. Other activities of the NHS include the sponsoring of a dance, conducting an interesting and informative assembly, and maintaining an honor plaque honoring all students with a 5.0 grade point average (straight A's) in a given six weeks by placing their names on the plaque. Second row. Points Chairman Mary Lee Volk; Treasurer Karen Johnson; Secretary Donna Bonebroke. During the 1966-67 school year the GHS Dramatics Club seemed to be plagued with bad luck. It all started with the cancellation of the Christmas play they were to present. Production of the play was going just fine until a freak accident occurred . . . the west wing of the school fell in causing valuable rehearsal time to be lost. As time passed by things seemed to be pretty calm. After two long weeks of memorizing quotes from Hamlet , constructing masks, and acquiring the senior members signatures upon them, several pledges were eligible for initiation as new members. As luck would have it about half of the members were unable to attend the initiation. Immediately the problem of having enough food and a variety of it arose, but thanks to the efficiency of Cindy Lewis everything turned out fine! When the time arrived to choose the play to be presented Lily the Felon's Daughter, a comical melodrama, was chosen. Everyone was optimistic and believed nothing else could go wrong; that is, until the auditorium was to be repaired and another stage had to be located for production in two weeks. Good luck came from somewhere though because the play was a success and the Dramatics Club is ready and waiting to take next year (on the right foot)! First row: C. Lewis, D. Freeman, M. Volk, D. It is not necessary to state the purpose of the yearbook staff for it had only one goal — to make the 1966-1967 yearbook the best of GHS! In order to accomplish this, we had to first and most important of all begin to build up a treasury; but someone was needed to keep us out of the red and Phyllis filled the requirements of being able to add and subtract. Then we had a treasury but no money, so Caroline led the hunt for ads and Carol began to blackmail the students and teachers for subscriptions. The other source of the staffs income came from Pam's and Donna's popcorn and candy stand at the basketball games, and also Terry's pop machine where things went better with Coke. Of course, the most important features of the yearbook-the pictures —were being snapped everywhere by Bev with her Kodak. Now came the task of deciding on what pages the various pictures should be placed, which was given to Cindy and Barb because of its unimportance. When the pictures finally received page numbers Sandy, Vickie, Debbie, and Brenda drew a bunch of lines and boxes on the layout paper, which were supposed to represent the completed pages. Also Carolyn drew odd little creatures who were supposedly students on some pages. Explanations of the pictures such as, This was a dance , were provided by Judy, Karen, and Charlotte. These were then typed with 50 errors or more by Danguole, Dianne, and Linda. The final touches were then added by Mrs. Engle whose actual job was that of janitor. n n It was the hidden talents of these people that were responsible for the great quality of the 1966-1967 Buffalo. Mrs. Engle contributed much to the yearbook in the capacity of advisor. Cindy Yoho and Barbara Ehrich, as editors of the yearbook, devoted their time and effort to make it a good one. 64 Foreign Student Speaks to Spanish Club First row: J. Manage, D. lopinski, M. The GHS auditorium was transformed into a wonderland of beauty with shades of blue crepe paper decorating the ceiling and walls and a cascading fountain bubbling in a hazy-blue light. The fountain, bubbling above the queen and her court, caused people to recall the theme of the dance Three Coins In A Fountain and silently whisper the words: each one seeking happiness —make him mine as their minds seemed to carelessly wander into a land of dreams. The enchantment of the evening was enjoyed by all as they happily conversed with one another, danced to the music provided by the Shades of Blue and vowed to make their dreams come true. However disappointed faces could be spotted as the hands of the clock approached midnight and the dance was brought to a close with the theme song, Three Coins In A Fountain. The room was emptied, decorations left halfhanging, and the coins of the fountain still seeking eternal happiness as the 1966 Homecoming became a part of the past and was locked away into memories never to be forgotten. 113 The dancing girls perfori Znerk and Al Laddin after he escaped from the palace. Terry Luster and Phyllis Barr were the recipients of the American Legion Citizenship Awards. We, the Class of 1967, made our last appearance on May 29, at 8:00 p.m. in the Georgetown High School gymnasium. As we slowly marched into the gym and took our seats to await the presentation of our diplomas, many Seniors remembered their past high school experiences. Basketball games, football games, prize-winning floats, initiations, record-breaking sales, proms, euchre games, bicycle hikes, Turkey Run and many other wonderful things came to mind. But there is something very important which has been left out. At the time very little glory could be found in it, but we shall some day give it due respect. As we passed through GHS, each of us gathered ' from the hallowed halls of ivy a variety of skills and information which we will someday use constructively to build our future. As our minds reviewed the past, this aspect was probably disregarded; but in the future it will play a very important part in our lives. After our diplomas were finally distributed and our tassels were turned, the Class of '67 became a part of the past. Each of us accepted a new challenge when we received our diplomas —to face the world and its problems with the knowledge we had gained from GHS and to try to help solve the problems which may confront us. If we recall our class motto, Today is our Accomplishment.............Tomorrow is our Goal, each member of our class should be able to plunge into new horizons and become a success if we only set our goals high enough. After four years of laborious study, Terry Luster was awarded the title of valedictorian for 1967. During his four years in school Terry participated in Student Council, NHS, Dramatics Club, basketball, and cross country. The title of salutatorion went to Charlotte Yeargin. Chorlotte was active in Dramatics Club, Pep Club, Science Club, and was a majorette during her high school years. 129 Seniors Receive Honors Terry Luster Charlotte Yeargin Valedictorian, Amer- Salutatorian ican Legion Good Citizen Award. We'd like to thank the faculty for bearing with us during those hectic picture-taking days, our advertisers for their help in financing our book, and last, but by no means least, a big Thank you to Mrs. Engle, our yearbook advisor. For without her advice and supervision, this yearbook wouldn't have been possible. Now, our Best of Luck to Carolyn and Ed, next year's co-editors, in their inevitable confusion of midnight deadlines, cold pizza, warm pop, and utter chaos!
