Executive Council In every democracy there must be o policy making branch. In the democracy of George Washing- ton High School, the Executive Council is that group. The lunchtime problem and rally exclusion were only two of the problems that confronted the Execu- tive Council this year. Due to hard work by all the members, many new ideas and suggestions were tried to help solve both of these major school problems. Some of the duties of the Executive Council are: the apportioning of school funds, the passing of by-laws to supplement our Constitution, and the granting of awards and honors in the name of the student body. Made up of elected Executive Council members, class officers and the student body officers, the executive council meets many times during the year in room 138 to discuss the problems of the student government. Presided over by the student body president and advised by Miss Selig. the Council makes possible a truly democratic Student Government. Washington Cabinet The Washington Cabinet, made up of representatives from each registry, is the sounding board for school problems. The cabinet meets every Tuesday at 8 a.m. in room 235. at which time registry problems are placed before Mr. Schmaelzle and the delegates. It is the duty of each elected representative to take ques- tions and problems from his registry to the cabinet. In the meeting the question is discussed and a proper solution is worked out by the members. During registry the same day. the registry students are presented with the minutes of the cabinet meeting. A discussion of them follows. Originally, the Washington Cabinet was a group of girls, one from each registry. The cabinet was so successful that Mr. Schmaelzle adopted the plan for the whole school.
