MY DREAMS ARE GETTING BETTER ALL THE TIME As I sat listening to the sweet music on Chuckles Time and trying to read Time mag- azine, my eyes became heavy. My head relaxed and rested upon the desk, upsetting the desk calendar. The clouds of oblivion rise and-it is 1955. The students who graduated in the class of 1945 are getting old-most of them are almost thirty! I see many of my old friends entering the business world. For instance, Don Agnew, former president of the classlof '45, is now president of the American National B-ank, and is just waiting to be nominated as candidate for the Presidency of thle United States, and he finds time to be the ideal husband, too. Harry has turned over the management of Haag's Drug Store to his bosom friend, Chuck Amos. Joe Coe is giving him some stif competition with his Coe's Drug Store just a couple streets ever. Ileana Collier is editor of C0ll'l'L'7 .9 magazine, and is dedicating every issue to the class of '45. Mary Ford set her cap for Henry Ford's millions, and is now chief mechanic in his factory. Mary Alice Kaiser is editor of the New York Hcmlrl and is writing editorials on juvenile delinquency. Ginny Cox is head buyer -at Cox, Inc. tFormerly Wm. H. Block Co., Florence Bernath is private secretary to the Vice-vice-vice President of Jones, Inc. Bob Jones' beautiful radio speaking voice is heard daily Over station XYZ. Betty Littrell is teaching comptome- ter courses at Acme Commercial Co. Walter Bone- steel is a multi-millionaire-he decided to dig for steel because of his name. Syble Howard owns a share of the merchandise at Murphy's 5 Kr 10-fa card of bobby pinsj. Shirley Lines has progressed from editor in chief of the Sm'veyoo' to copy girl for the VVcsts1'dc Illesseiiger. Helen Porter is a Lulu', of a typist in a downtown oiiice. Mary Putcho is the owner of a cleaning establishment- without th'e help of L. S. Ayers. Bill McCafferty, better known as Billie Van Johnson , is now mod- eling bobby socks for Ward's Bobby Sock Co, and just across the way, Morris Gambrall is modeling white shi1'ts and conservative ties. Jack Bugher is King of the Bums and his key man, Bartley Linder, has his office on the park benchg marked Wet Paint. Betty Nan Cox is a seamstress known the world over. Helen Gruca has mobs clamoring at the entrance of her Gruca Skating Rink. Hazel Atkinson has her own oiiice and a sten- ographic stad. Wanda Earles is the eiiicient sec- retary of Indiana's Governor. Bill Hider is jug- gling eggs in Hiders' Grocery. Betty J. Brown is the very private secretary to husband, Dr. Da- vid Wheeler. Some were prone to go out into the world of business or profession, and just remained domes- ticated home-bodies. Helen Fowler's hope chest at last brought results. Jack Gilligan is still escorting Thelma around hoping and praying for the nerve to pop the question. Marjorie Land is married and singing lulliabies to her seven little children. Mild- red Benge is going from port to port with her sail- or husband. Jeanne Gaston still has hopes of 'Van Johnson entering her life. Patricia Main is giving orders while Willis pushes the sweeper over the living room carpet. Chuck Mendenhall is fishing in the back yard, while wife, Jackie McCurdy baits the hook. Josephine Scanlon is madly in love with her college professo1'. Carter, Sammy Siddons is leading a busy domestic life with his wife, Luella, and the five little 'tSammys. Claude Hamilton is still looking for his dream girl, that he unfortun- ately never found from '41 to '45, Bob Sprowl is still cracking jokes, but now there is someone with a rolling pin to crack him hack. Norma Whisenand is living in the proverbial little white cottage and is the neatest little housewife in town. Drinking cokes, reading bo-oks, and writing letters, Erma Daugherty is still waiting for Bob. Louwana Dfity has been Mrs. Ed Smith for at least nine years. Betty Gulley isn't beating around the Bush anymore-she has him well planted now. There are some who, after seeing the hard life of a teacher, still haven't learned. Mary Lou Francis is teaching art at Shbrtridge, after strdy- ing abroad for the last few years. Professor Paul Yanich is giving Einstein .a run for his money in conquering the 4th dimension. Francis Pryor is teaching young men the art of buz.z'ing young la- dies. C-arl Armenotf is the typical absent minded science professor. Ben Bogue is yelling football tactics at a Purdue grid squad. Betty Hollis is the favorite teacher at Indianapolis' largest kindergar- ten. Frances Cerne is still sitting quietly in the cor- ner teaching the -advantages of a quiet woman. Some of our graduates are devoting their lives to the se1'vice of other people. Virginia Reilly is best know as the angel of mercy as she is ln ad of all the Social Service organizations. Emma Jean Nunaley is the Florence Nightingale of the Metho- dist Hospital. Piaul Miller is president of the L'- nited States National Honor Society. Sylvia Mer- gole has made a great contribution to the world with her invention of Mergole's Freckle Cream . Byron Jones is doing wonderful work in China as a missionary. Martha LaFollette is at the top of the Social Register. Marjorie Grafe is teaching a class on the Advantages of Short Women. And Babe Rs- arey is trying to enroll,. . .he says he's time advan- tage. Pat- ricia Bond is still tying to put 'tOaktown on the map. A look into the world of military service shows Don Wade in command of the United States Army. Floyd Dial is still trying to get into the Navy. Bar- l-ara Hart is putting heart and soul into hixr work -nursing sailors back to health in the Navy Nurse Corps. The class of '45 had many talented in music. Naida Petranofl' has the feminine singing lead in Oklahoma which is in it's twelfth ye-ar on Broadway. Betty Gene Ricketts is in the Hawaiian Islands-teaching tlge natives how to play the guitar. Margaret Ernest is the most famous organ- ist. .Ethel Smith comes second. Nadjeda Chekofi' is Kay Kyser's newest and most sensational find. .Aileen Hart is giving Lawrence Tibbett stiff com- petition on the Hit Parade. Bob St.anley's trumpet is still his most pri.2'ed possession. Then there are some who just couldn't stay away from G.W.H.S. Alta Smith? is still yell squad c1pt.ain, yelling Washington on to victories. Joe Farb has a permanent position as doorman for all Wiashingtoifs senior classes. Harry Brunner is teachling a class in Cicero in room 169. Rosemary Gammon isn't far away-she still spends her sjiare time at the Buzz Bucket. Betty James is still dancing in the cafeteria-tslue just couldn't find a juke box as good as ours.J Jacqueline Smith is successor to Mrs. Bess Wright as Washington High School's dramatic coach. Stanley Stewart is hfere--still trying to slruggle through English, M-artelle Morgan, new- est edition to the G. W. H. S. staf, is astounding even Senor Bock with her fluent use of El-Espanol. Albert Turk is still haunting the halls of Wash.- i 25 ington trying to find th-at guy who tagged him the nickname, Dimples. Joan Rogers is cutting the asbestos in the cafeteria with her partner Eleenel. Edythe Bernath is sitting in room 5 still trying to pass stenography. The class of '45 was always able to entertain itself in the corridors as well .as in the classroom, Marilyn Kirk is pushing Arthur Murray out of the Pennsylvania building and establishing her own dance studios there. Mary Kocjan is manager and entertainer at the famous Mary Ann Club . Bernice Donnelly is still the favorite exhibitionist at the Riverside Rink. Joe Boyd is taking over Alfred Lunt's dressing room and grease paint. Joyce Miller is at Butler Stadium, star fullback on the -all girl's football team. Connie Kakavecos and her partner, Kenny Riggs, are arguing over who shall keep the cup they just won for jitter- bugging. Herbe1't Marlett is taking Edgar Ber- gan's place when it comes to imitating Mortimer Snerd. Emma Lou Clayton is still preparing food for the feast iwe've elected her the gal most likely to feed us J. Lois Long still comes early to take care of the cooking room. Madelyn Avery is still undecided as to what her profession will be. Millicent Joseph, Dorothy Mc- Kay, and Betty Wilson are competing in finals for the title Miss Red Head of 1955 Carol Long is still spending her summers at Westlake-inew er could figure out why-for a tan or-.J Vir- ginia Bunch hasn't grown much, but that didn't stop her. Doris Spears and Joyce Strouse are still always together. Lorena Barnes was finally dis- covered and she is now a famous Powers Model. In just tive seconds it will be 11 o'clock, says the station 'announcer ...The clouds float away and I rub my eyes with Rosy Future tipped fin- gers. I lock around, setting the desk calendar upright.
