All aboard! The U. S. S. Wash- ington '45 raises anchor and sets sail over rough and turbulent seas toward our last port of call. .. Graduation, 1945. Our first port of call, however, is the attendance office, where the albatross, a sign of danger on the High Seas, hangs warningly against the door. There we are officially slated as Freshmen, '41. It is a long, hard voyage, as our Ship's Log reveals, but many achieve fame as good sea- men, despite stormy weather. Freshman girls start out with cheers of bon voyage from our con- voy, the big sister at the Freshman Party. This convoy leaves us early on our way, but their advice and good wishes remain with us and guide us onward. Soon we pass Freshman Island and skim briskly through the Isthmus of Sophomore. In the Waters of War Bond we pass the largiest sea- going vessel, and it's crew, the Senior Ship. With Ray Allen and Frank Hines as our representatives we take the State L-mile Relay in '43, in 1:33.6 seconds. . .Soon we reach the Locks that lead from the Isthmus, but first promotion ceremonies are held. We are all promoted to Lieutenants, Junior Grade. Mates Anna Mae Mohr and Carl Armenoff are awarded scholarship plaques for outstanding acheivement during that year's voyage. . .So pass- ing through the Locks to higher waters we en- ter. . . The Bay of Juniors! Here, Captain, Junior Grade, Frank Hines takes command as president of the Junior Class. Virginia Cox, Bill Deem, Bill Hodges, and Frank Hines rule with an iron hand C 4 as they win oflices in the Student Union election of '44. Later in the year the crew stages a Vaudeville and grosses much while playing to capacity houses both days. . .As our ship sails smoothly through the now fastly receding waters of Junior Bay, an air of suppressed excitement hovers over the ship. . .for we are holding the First Junior Rose Dance ever hfeld in the ship's hold. Festivites are brought to a climax with the crowning of Rose Queen, Jac- quelime Smith. Though battered and worn, the ship has weathered the wind, the rain. .the perils of the seas. . .but before it enters upon the last lap of it's voy-age, awards for achievement in scholarship are captured by David Wheeler and Anna Mae Mohr. The Senior Sea! Most revered of all Waters. Piloted by Ciaptain, Senior Gr.ade, Don Agnew, the ship is maneuvered firmly over the waves. . .Sur- passing all dangers we captured the City Football Championship, and firsrt place in the Annual R. O. T. C. Review. As the new term opens the Senior Sno-Ball whirls merrily by. Our first Senior Dance. Good citizen Jacqueline Smith beams proudly as she is awarded the coveted title of Good Citizen of Washington High in the Annual D. A. R. Contest. And so the year goes. . .new honors and new fame. . .but ahead of us awaits new fields. The U. S. S. Washington '45 docks at our destination. . . Graduation, '45. With tear-dimmed eyes we bid farewell as it slips quietly from the harbor with a full crew onward over the crest of the Oceans of Learning. . .But with shoulders back and eyes ever forward, we move on. ..up the Narrow, Crooked Path of the Future. . .On. . .To Destiny! 7 V041 E, I ,, - .1 1 SHNI1 bl! The last city championship won by a Wash- ington team was in 1937. Last year the Continent- als didn't rank so high in the city standings, Coach Bogue and the boys enjoyed a most successful season with a record of 7 wins, a tie, and one loss. Captained by Charles Hodges, the boys gathered a total of 198 points to 37 points for their opponents. Among their wins was an 87-0 Wifi Fourth row: M. McNew, W. Jones, B. Darrah, J. Rejich, P. In winning the City Title, the team first tied Manual 6-6, next Shortridge fell to the score of 7-0, Tech was the next victim when Wash- ington registered a 6-0 win. Finally in the champ- ionship tilt Cathedral was defeated 6-0. Several of the boys made all city teams this year. Fifteen members of this years' team will re- turn for next year's eleven. Jimmy Clevenger was elected to the captaincy. A mighty cheer and congratulations for these boys, our boys, and champions all!
