Then, however, the tragedy of our lives occurred, Mr. Keever left, and, although we elected Mr. Shane as our new sponsor knowing that he would be fine, we still had an empty space in our hearts for the sponsor who had served us so nobly during the first two years. In the fall of 1929, we returned to George School with a larger and older class. It was the largest class in the history of George School, and we were proud of it. VVe were Juniors, yes, actual Juniors, which meant staying for Senior Recital and Commencement and being generally important. Again we chose Dave VVolstenholme as president, with the same committee as before backing him. The first big business was our rings. The classes of '31 and ,32 liked our pattern so well that they agreed to have the same when they became Juniors. Then came our party in Drayton Social Room. The orchestra played for us and we couldn't have had a better time if it had been given in the Ritz, with Paul VVhiteman's orchestra playing for us. The food was delicious and the fun we had was even better. Later in the evening we played bridge. It was all great, and we certainly are indebted to our sponsor, Mr. Shane, for a top-notch party. Then came the first proof that We were Juniors-Senior Recital! It meant that we could stay, help our big brothers out, and have a lot of fun ourselves. So we ushered, and everything that goes with it, to help the Senior Recital to be a success. The girls showed their ability to make the class outstanding! The gym meet came along and the Juniors carried off the honors. The next big event of our lives was the junior-Senior picnic which was held in the usual place, Hulmeville Park. VV e made sandwiches and other good things all morning. At about three o'clock the buses came and we started off for another good time. There was the usual canoeing and a bit of pony riding. Supper was very important, for people were hungry after so much paddling. At last the buses came again and there was an awful time getting the first bus filled. Then came Commencement and we suddenly realized that we would very soon be Seniors. VV e picked daisies and made the chains, waited on tables, ushered, and rushed here and there in one last effort as Juniors to help the departing Seniors. Summer vanished rapidly, and we found ourselves at last in the position We had long dreamed of-Seniors. NV ill we ever forget that year and the glorious time we had? At our first dignified Senior meeting we elected "Bill" Strandwitz president, Anne XVells secretary, and Sara Van Doren and Francis Stover treasurers. Then we had a party, and you never saw a sillier, more childish party. NVe played three-deep, drop' the hanky and everything that goes with it. The costumes were superb. There were lovely dresses that came just so far above the knees, large and beautifully tied hair ribbons. and those girls who were fortunate enough to have long hair came with lovely ringlets. The boys, too, came in short pants, bare knees, and Lord Fauntleroy ties. Then. perhaps to sober us down after such capers, we had our Dance at the VV alt XVhitman during Christmas vacation. The Skytop Highlanders were there in all their glory. Harry Evans had worked very hard on the plans and it surely was a big success. VV' e had a little more money in our treasury and a merry time to keep in our memories. After our dance, of course, we needed some of the great outdoors, so one 38 night we got together for a tobogganing party. The moon was up, the snow as smooth as glass, and we had a very jolly, bumping good time. Perhaps the fun we had that night partially made up for the absence of a skating party. For we had bad luck with Old Man W'inter, who insisted that skating at night was bad for one, so refused to supply the necessary ice. Our girls again proved their worth by carrying off the gym cup. And now, as our four years of happiness draw to a close, we leave as parting gift and token of our love and appreciation for George School, the stone bridge in back of Retford. XV e, the Class of 1930, sincerely hope as we step aside to become a part of the ever-increasing Alumni, that We shall leave in our place an emptiness which will never be completely hlled. XV e trust that George School has benefited as much from having us here as we have from spending this small part of our lives with her. 39 '-Eval fllflffldlf lass -N -N. 1... -. skater C FCSSCI' Sherman de 1er k ows 3. Walton Richard Weber William Worral Giles Zimmerman P 1 - lg. 3.1 A Dmmatzk Cfzzb The Dramatic Club was organized in the fall of 1920, with Miss Stabler as sponsor. The society has gradually progressed, until now it has become one of the leading organizations of the school and has taken its rightful place among the honorary societies. Membership is based on personal character, general scholarship, and outstanding ability shown in the various phases of Dramatic Art, both acting and producing. It is the custom of the club to sponsor annually, a three-act play. This year, under the Direc- tion ot Miss Ruth R. Haun, "Minick," by Ferber and Kaufman, was presented on November 17, scoring a huge success. The Club also presented several one-act plays, among which "The Boy Comes Home," by A. A. Milne, and "The Pot Boiler," by Alice Gertstenberg, were outstanding, the latter was so enthusiastically received that a second performance was given before the Friends' Yearly Meeting, during their visit to the school. Since it was started in IQ22, replacing the Icies, this four-page paper, issued once a week, has become an important factor in school life. E. Kenneth Stabler was appointed teacher of Journalism and faculty ad- visor of the News this year, and as he has had several years of actual news- paper experience, the publication has profited greatly under his leadership. The George School N efws has concentrated this past year on .achieving true journalistic style in the handling and the writing of stories, and on getting the staff to estimate correctly the news value of any given event, as Well as to recognize the necessity for absolute accuracy both in fact and mechanical detail.
