At last, finally, and about time - but, at the same time, sudden and a little sad. The top of this particular stairway , and, what do you know, we ' re seniors. Each year we have envisioned our next year here. That certainty was in the same instance too predictable and rather reassuring. No more. In a year, George Mason will be another memory, recalling feelings perhaps both pleasant and trivial. We have seen our friends grow and change, and we have noticed differences in our own perspectives and attitudes. It would be hard to say precisely how much the essence of G.M. contributed to that change, but it cannot be denied that a good deal of each 1977 senior ' s growth and development was at least contained within the walls of this school. If for no other reason than its physical presence in our everyday lives, G.M. has, for each of us, become interwoven with the nature of our present character. Time will change the patterns and the elements of who we are. It will always be that way. But it is important that we remember who we were. These pages are for that purpose. Reluctant student being invited to listen to daily announce- ments. In the younger grades, when first starting high school, schoolwork was nothing more than schoolwork and it didn’t seem to have any purpose. As the years went on, I began to realize more that I would actually be using some of the stuff they were giving me. That made it more exciting and I ' d decide to buckle down and take in everything I could. For a couple of reasons that isn ' t as easy as it sounds. I ' ve had a few teachers that have made me eager to work and listen and learn about what they know. They have gotten me interested enough to want to discuss the things they’re talking about. This hasn ' t happened in most of my classes. I probably could have gotten a lot more out of this school if my general attitude wasn’t normally skeptical. Upon entering any classroom, all I felt was that the same old routine would be setting in soon. It’s hard for me to keep my attention on a subject. My mind does a lot of wandering. Too often, it seems, classes contain people who only intend to get through this school. It ' s more interesting and fun to be in a class with people who want to know what ' s going on. Being so close to graduation, I ' m starting to think a lot about what I ' d like to get into after school. There are a lot of things I like to do and would like to try . My feeling about this school is that 1 shouldn ' t have taken it so lightly, especially because I want to make something good, careerwise, out of my life. After five years here, I feel more socially ready than academi- cally to go into the working world . This school has too many cliques. It is sometimes hard to make friends and if you don ' t belong in a certain person ' s group, they can be definitely snobbish. Being restless and wanting to move on to something that satisfies me more is another feeling. I know there is a lot that is going to happen to me in my life, but it won ' t happen un til after I leave this school. It ' s hard to be patient and do things step by step.
