wesome Offense Overshadowed Offensive Team. From Left, Front: Jeff Hobson, Bob Hobson, Andy Schwind, Barry Dinneen, Mark Hamlin, Chuck Stickney, David Payne. Second: Pret Block. Third: Wendell Byrd, Bruce Manley, John Wagner. An abundance of speed, talent and drive from the backfield, and force, power and experience in the offensive line formed the backbone of the Mustangs' game plan. The addition of Pret Block at quarterback, Bruce Manley and John Wagner at running backs and the return of Wendell Byrd and Jeff Hobson as re- ceivers turned this offense into a stunning tool of attack, implemented by the ability of the line-men. Although lacking in depth, the endurance and constant effort of Guards Mark Hamlin and Andy Schwind, Tackles Chuck Stickney and Bob Hobson made the offense the overwhelming ma- chine it was. Recognized at the annual Fall Banquet for their outstanding con- tributions were Pret Block, who accumu- lated over 1700 yards of passing and rushing, Most Valuable g Andy Schwind, Most Improved , and Bill Marsh, Most Team Spirited. George Mason's four contribu- tions to the All-District Team were, from left: Pret Block, Chuck Stickney, Jim Davis and Jeff Hobson. as 'F'j,' rel? P.' wg' ' -- ....--. lla! Defensive Team. From Left, Front: Bob Hobson, John Velasquez, Chuck Stickney. Second: David Payne, Mark Hamlin, Barry Dinneen, Jeff Hobson. Third: Wally Boswell, Wendell Byrd, John Wagner, Mike Lacy. l I8 '1 ps? i w L... -w l The lack of experienced defensive ball players forced many members of the offense to play both ways. Coach Jack Gambill did a marvelous job, manipulating the players he had to work with. This coupled with frequent injuries caused the defense to lose much of its sting from past years. While the players were still fresh, the defense resembled last year's powerhouse. Gapping holes in the defensive wall would have been total disaster were it not for the valiant efforts of returning players Chuck Stickney, Wendell Byrd, Jeff Hobson, Jim Davis and Mike Lacy and the new faces on the defense such as Mark Hamlin, Andy Schwind and John Wagner. fl E 'V' 4 . :,1,i.,.v,j rr ,,. . ,f Zirffatii ff, 1 Ciisfffli , '1 'M ,, 'I xy
