LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF THE SENIOR CLASS OF 1949 KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS GREETINGS It IS my honor to have been chosen to present the class wIIl for the SenIor class of 1949 It has been necessary for us to decrde whether the Class WIII shall be an act of comedy or a sIncere statement of somethIng we would lIke to leave to those who follow after us some IntangIble thIng whlch In gIvIng to others we do not lose to our selves A lIttle more than a year ago a freedom traIn traveled throughout our natIon Not a very large POFEIOH of the people of our natIon have had the prIvIlege of of seerng the freedom traIn It IS not necessary to have seen If The thrng that makes IC so Important cannot be seen The thIng whIch IS so Important IS a belxef In a cause whIch IS shared by all The traIn Itself was gleamIng and and powerful and grand, but If passed qurckly out of sIght There was also a gleam of power and grandeur ID the Idea of freedom and thIs IS somethIng that never dIes and never passes out of sIght ThIs IS AmerIca s herItage, IC IS ours we desIgnate that others shall have II too AmerIca means far more than a contInent bounded by two oceans, saId Her bert Hoover It IS more than prrde of mllllafy power, glory ID war, or IH VICKOFY It means more than vast expanse of farms, of great factorIes or mInes, magnI f1cIent CIIICS, or mIllIons of automobI1es and radros It 1S more even than the tradItIons of the great tIde westward from Europe whIch pIoneered the conquest of a contInent It IS more than our lIterature our mus1c our poetry Other HRIIOHS have these thmgs also To the great masses of people every where AmerIca, 1S a hallowed work To therr, and to us, If IS the hope of the world and we want to share that hope wIth you Never before has If been so Important that we keep before us the Ideals that made our country great IH the past and can benefIt us and the whole world IH the future We who are graduatIng from Central School and the hIgh schools of all AmerIca can fInd many reasons to be grateful for our herItage and to WIII to carry If on at whatever cost ThIs has been thoughtfully consrdered and offIcIally adopted as the wIll for the mm cf 19 49 1 g .... . . . CLASS PROPHECY The consrderatlon of the future events rs always an rnterestrng subject To thmk about the career possrbrlrtxes of my fellow classmen 1S strll more mteresung because rt rnvolves each one of us personally I would not presume to look Into a crystal ball and brrng out ome rare and un expected forecast about what the members of the class Wrll be dorng rn any grven number of years from now But I wrll grve the prophecy of the class of 1949 We are leavrng hrgh school when the world seems to be surgmg wrth energy enthusrasm rmag matron and mventron Our good fortune rs strll greater because we are graduatmg rn a trme of peace and prosperrty Our generatron has seen a great upheavel of modern crvrlrzatron It has caused great change rn all countrres and many people from all walks of lrfe belreve the greatest change of all rs tak rng place In our own country and rn our own way of lrfe Whatever change rs gorng on wrthm our own country and way of lrf rs somethrng of whrch we ourselves are a part Because of that I am afrard we are less aware of the dangers rn the occurrrng change Graduatron from hrgh school rs the horxzon from whrch we look forward rnto a future whrch seems lrke a forever Our years rn hrgh school have been lrke about as many foot prmts rn the sands of trme Around us are evrdences ofthe great changes that have been gorng on For years there has been talk of televrsron Today rt rs a realrty And less obvrous but perhaps of greater Importance are changes rn our laws and socral customs whrch are hoped to be rn the drrectron of rmprovrng the lrvmg condrtrons of the masses Amerrcans are motrvated by a personal drrvrng power whrch comes from the competxtrve system of mass productron We are free to choose our own careers rn lrfe and are assured we wrll be re warded rn proportron to how well we work These are the future possrbrlrtres of our class After graduatron and completrng junror College rn Texarkana we see Betty Rose happy rn her work as an elementary teacher rn the Central School We frnd W D QBuckJ Harrell after havmg completed an accountrng course rn Busrness College as audrtor for State Revenue Department wrth headquarters rn Texarkana We fmd Bobby jones yes strll a confrrmed bachelor though I m sure you wouldn t have guessed rt rs operatrng a lonely hearts bureau rn Reno Though we thmk he would lrke to return to Arkansas for Betty jean rf M C ohnson ever makes up hrs mrnd Drd you say that news commentator was Davrd Langdon? Well well I knew he was Interested rn In radro and also took speech at Central Maybe all of 'vir Merryman s work was not a farlure after all I should say I drd enjoy that productron of Romeo and julret? Who played the part of Romeo? Don t you remember Coleman Freund? He remmded me of the trmes at Central when he was try rng to replace Charles C after he went to the 'viarmes Niaybe he drd I m not sure Whom drd you say was the contractor of that huge school bemg burlt at Central srnce the con solrdatron of Fouke and Garland? Curtrs Frazrer Yes I knew he would make a good contractor you know he helped burld the annex to the Central school rn 1948 Yes and guess who I met rn Vlashmgton D C whrle I was there? N rt was J F Frrdax he rs head of the typrng department of all the brlls mtroduced rn Congress But I am sue you are not surprrsed when you remember the grades he made rn typrng under Nirs NlcCurry I drd see the Armrstrce parade rn Phrladelphra when I was on my vacatron But drd you know who that colonel was drrectrng the parade?
