HOMECOMING 1982 Filled with excitement, GCHS students eagerly awaited the week of October 25-29- Each day during this week, different activities such as Hats off to Bulldogs , Western Day”, Fifties Day”, Punk Rock Day”, and Purple and Gold Day” took place. Everything possible was done to make Homecoming 1982 a special success. The Junior High Cheerleaders sponsored a door decoration contest. Mrs. Peters' sophomore homeroom won first place, Mrs. Carpenter’s freshmen homeroom won second place, and Mrs. Howell's junior homeroom won third place. This was a new event added to the Homecoming celebration. A bonfire and pep rally on Thursday night helped to increase school spirit. This event attracted many enthusiastic students. Finally, Friday arrived!!!! Everyone was busy preparing for the parade, pre-game activities, and the game itself. School was dismissed at 11:30 for the downtown parade and pep rally in the town square. Ollie Mathis, escorted by Jimmy Grider, was crowned Miss Homecoming at the pre-game activities. It was now time for the big game against our number one rival, the Slocomb Red Tops. The game ended in a 6-0 loss to the Red Tops. Students, alumni, and guests attended a Homecoming dance sponsored by the Kiwanis Club in the National Guard Armory. The Student Council decorated, and the music was provided by the Party People Disco. Homecoming Week 23
