Many new styles and fashions emerged at G.C.H.S. in 1983. They ranged from mini skirts to head bands. Blue jeans were in great demand for both males and females. The names of many designers could be seen stitched on the hip pockets of jeans. Adidas, Asahi, penny loafers, boots, Hush Puppies, Nikes, Whimsies, and Candies were the footwear fashions. In the jewelry line, Serpentine chains abounded on both males and females. Gold dipped leaves, sand dollars, floating hearts, initial charms, diamond rings, and earrings were also popular. Miss Hartford Contestants Present A Night Of ALL AMERICAN SPORTS” The Miss Hartford Pageant was held in April 1982 at the Geneva County High School Auditorium. Six girls competed for the title. The areas in which they competed were Judges interview, Swimsuit competition, Physical Fitness routine, Sports attire, Verbal communications, and Evening wear. The Judges Interview and Swimsuit Competition was held in the afternoon. The girls were asked questions on local, state, and national affairs. That night the girls presented a physical Fitness routine to the theme from Chariots of Fire . Afterwards, the girls competed in Sportswear and verbal communication at the same time. The girls came out dressed in the attire of their favorite sport and gave a speech telling why it was their favorite. Following the Sportswear competition, the contestants were presented in Evening wear.
