ADMINISTRATION SCOTT COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD Gate City High, as well as the other schools in the county, is able to function properly because of the fine leadership of the members of the Scott County School Board. As in past years, the members of the Scott County School Board are working hard to make our school system the best possible. For this, we are greatly indebted to them. Mr. Freddie J. Fugate, Principal It has been said that more knowledge has been generated during the lifetime of the present ' adult generation than existed at its birth. The rapidly increasing population, the decreasing time required for travel between coun- tries, and ideological differences indicate the need for an increased social sensitivity. Margaret Mead has said that schools are formal organizations set up by a society to per- form those functions, that the informal group such as the family can no longer perform. The meaning for schools in our democratic society is clear. We must, by an ever increasing cooperative effort, preserve and extend our culture. The school must take the lead r in this effort at the same time inculcating within the student an understanding and tolerance of those diverse cultures with which he will be in contact
