TO ALL OF OUR TEACHERS The Staff of the 1951 SPINNER dedicates this yearbook. We gratefully recognize the great part which they have played in our education. In this dedication we wish to show our esteem for them und our respect for their profession. We believe that they are capable of inaking the greatest Contribution to the Light of Freedom. John Mason Brown wrote recently in one of our periodicals: "VVe must not, we cannot, forget, however, that regardless of the threats of darkness and the thickly pathering storm clouds, the lamps still burn and brightly burn. One of our major duties is to shield these lamps from the gale of our Iitful times." G 1 , 4 310, Y wif 7 ' n x i ' Qffffi. .L, . Ls ,I v il A? PgO I-lddT Leary I. K. Lo DONT BE GULLIBLE lTl1e following story is told by the Bornett Not'l Bonk of Jacksonville, Flol "ln the friendly city of St. Augustine great flocks of sea gulls are starving amid plenty. Fishing is still good, but the gulls don't know how to fish. For generations they have depended on the shrimp fleet to toss them scraps from the nets. Now the fleet has moved to Key West. "The shrimp fleet had created a Welfare State for the St. Augustine sea gulls. The birds never learned to fish for themselves and they never taught their children to fish. Instead they led their little ones to the shrimp nets. "Now the sea gulls, the fine free birds that almost symbolize liberty it- self, are starving to death because they gave in to the 'something-for- nothing' lure! They sacrificed their independence for a hand-out. "Let's not be gullible gulls." The Gastonia Chamber of Commerce CONGRATULATIONS Compliments of CLASS OF 1951 5. K.
