Zeal! '4 The Press office on the "Hill" is the center of busy activity as the hum of the mimeograph echoes through the halls. Eager students cock their eyes toward the classroom door as the time approaches for delivery of the DEVlL'S DELIGHT. Progress is always the aim of the Gaston paper. Its staff members have en- deavored to improve the make-up and the news coverage this year. The Thanksgiving edition was printed with perfumed ink to carry out its autumn motif, and the colorful Christmas edition was designed to cheer and entertain its readers as well as to inform them. A ten-year history and an alphabetical list of all staff members were enclosed in a leather notebook and added to the treasures of the Press office. 7 Eltonette Buster, Assistant Cluh Editor tackles any yoh With a smile. Sleepy Future Homemakers leave at 5:30 A.M. for a fun-filled clay at the Texas State Fair, Dallas. ah! fldf c-M 'U Q "c Q' ! 3 T7 ,--F CQLI The Gaston Chapter of Future Homemakers has had one of the fullest and most exciting years since its beginning. The membership this year was a record breaker with eighty enthusiastic, hard-working girls. The annual trip to the State Fair at Dallas on F.H.A. and F.F.A. day was the first that many of the girls had ever made. The highlight event of the year was the Area X meeting that was held at Gaston on November 6, for the first time in the history of Gaston. All the hard work that was done to make the meeting a success was rewarded when some four-hundred girls from many schools seemed truly to enjoy themselves. The main interest of the day was the talk by Senor Roberto de la Rosa, cultural agent for the Mexican government, on the theme of "Promoting Inter- national Good Will." is-1 The F.II.A. officers prepare ll gift hox of foocl for needy families at Christmas time. The Gaston Future Homemakers had a successful year and many enjoyable hours in the cottage during the year 7948-'49. A talent program, the annual Christmas program, a panel discussion, by both boys and girls, on teen-age problems, the entertaining of a neighboring chapter, and sending delegates to the State Convention in May at Dallas, made up a few of the many interesting activities the F.H.A. had at their monthly meetings. The club also raised money with a rummage sale, variety show, and cake sale. 'Ki Refreshments of cherry tarts and fruit punch are served to the Future Homemakers in honor of the newly-initiatecl members. 3 411, Y.. g 71111411 y Q ,. 1, UU, I ...L M -. , f-nt. After spending a week practicing at Gaston, they went to Bryan for a week of football camp. Despite the very hot weather and the few boys with football experience, Coaches Emory Deason and L. A. Stephenson fashioned a ball club that demanded the respect of their opponents. The 1948 Devils turned out a season's record that was far better than expected. The upset of the season came when Gaston defeated Carlisle 19-14 in a very exciting contest that was anyone's game until the final whistle. 4. 1l a football Player all :he wayf, In the tussle with the L. C. eleven, the Devils lost by a score of 7-14. The Devils came within a yard of pay dirt several times, but a strong L. C. line repelled their plunges for that last yard. The final game of the season with the Devils' most bitter rival, New London, handed the Devils a 6-13 defeat, sending Gaston into third place in the District. li l Te. - f V.6mv."i""vQ"s 4 'r' " 'ff d Herbert William if L' s scoots around left end to score on Timpson Mr. limo Coaches " KJ 1 1 I-,. x.
