Through the years some have moved away, some have dropped out, and some few have married. At the present time only eighteen of the original class remain, but the others have been replaced by students who have added much to our class individually and as a whole. During our grammar school days we worked and played hard, always looking for- ward to the day when we could go upstairs. lt was a hard struggle sometimes, and though it seemed like an eternity, we finally made it. Then came the years of Mr. Moores Eng- lish class, Latin, examinations, geometry, de- bate and speech contests, music festivals and band trips, the thrill of sports and Christmas holidays. and the first rush of spring air, Our primary reason for attending school has been to learn. and scholastically we have established a line record. Fifteen members of the class have been elected to the National The 1951 Green and White Honor Society. We have poets, writers, ar- tists, and just plain, good, all-round students. In sports both boys and girls have showed an enthusiastic spirit and commendable abil- ity. Even though we haven't always been the stars, we did our best and tried to win for Alma Mater. In our high school career we have obtained honors in all phases of school and extra- curricular activities and have received acclaims of popularity throughout the years. Naturally we have been far from a model class, and there have been times when we have caused our families and faculty grief over our work. Our effort has not always been our foremost, but by guidance and work we have achieved our goal. We, the graduating class of 1951, say A'Thank you," for the fine things you have done for us. Without our families, friends, and faculty we could not have achieved this goal nearly so well. 9 , , 1 I -ff S-Qifyci '51-iff' -ff 1.5 rlf. ...J cff,gItl'flf.' 4 f- fe f, f , R '11 I 1 1, ibn. 1 lg x V' ' f , 61,223 KI If 'LQ 4' .I f .IQ fxdn-, fbu? 11' 4- , if Deldfitfkttyfls M ,- g.tafl4"d"' At Garth 1, 2, 3, 4, Pep Club 1. 2, 3, 4: Glee Club 1, 2, ii, 4: Girls' Selected Group 2: Speech Club 1, 2, 3, 4: Debate 1, 2, 3: N. STUDENT COUNCIL To instill good citizenship and to give the students some participation in governing the school are the major purposes of the Student Council. Each of the upper six grades has three representatives-the President and Secretary, who are permanent members for the term, and an alternate, who is elected for a six-weeks period. The Garth Student Council is one of Kentucky's most active in that Garth was the Vice- President school in Kentucky for l950 and Was elected President for 1951. .ak . lv xx ., L- fxx Vkdff it 1 Al 1.4 1, Av N 't - ' ."'l '1 1 ' 4 ll ' ,I 1 VM L . ,af I tx JA! NATIONAL FORENSIC LEAGUE Speech at Garth is receiving major emphasis. There are forty-seven members of the Na- tional Forensic League. Seventeen of these have been added this session. There are two or three more prospects for the year. There are four degrees of membership. The Degree of Merit is for those who have earned twenty points of credit. The Degree of Honor is for fifty points. The Degree of Excellence is for one hundred, and the Degree of Distinction for two hundred. We have six with Degrees of Distinction. Points are earned according to a definite scale. Debates won or lost, contests participated in. services, speeches given before groups of adults'-all possess point value. XVe may not all become lawyers, preachers, or politicians: but we shall be able to rise to our feet when the occasion requires it and SPEAK.
