28. ln order to be a National Honor Society CNHSJ member, one must meet certain requirements. Some of these qualifications are leadership and maintaining an overall grade point average of 11.0. Most importantly, one has to pass the faculty board. The purpose of NHS is service, both inside and outside the school. Each member must work two hours per month for an assigned teacher. Four hours of outside projects are also required. These projects varied widely, such as the adopt-a- highway program and helping a needy family at Christmas. Being able to help someone who is less fortunate is very satisfying work, said senior Kevin Grauke. The Lakeview Centennial High School gymnasium was filled with excited nervousness as the Academic Decathalon CLUBS ATTRACT DEDICATED STUDENTS teams from around the region battled in the Super Quiz, the final event of the Texas Academic Decathalon. The Decathalon consisted of ten academic events- six tests of academic strength, three demonstrations of communication, and the Super Quiz. Six juniors and seniors were given the chance to compete together as a team. The A- Team spent countless hours preparing for this event, which was held on January 30 and 31 at Lakeview High School. The students put forth their best effort and they represented the school very well. We are very proud of them, said Academic coach Laura Barden.
