Old familiar faces of ex-graduates could be seen roaming throughout the halls all day long. Beta Club delivered their traditional Homecoming roses. Finally the bell for the pep rally released many anxious students. Spirit and morale was built up with every chant and cheer. Students were urged to arrive at Williams Stadium to view the Homecoming festivities during the pre-game. Due to a new district rule, all schools were required to hold Homecoming ceremonies before the game. The stands were quiet as the new queen, Michelle Estrello was announced, but yelled wildly as she was driven around the track by the Head Bell Guard, Brady Phipps. The Owl football team played a long tough game against the Greenville Lions, but was not able to win. They lost 20-17. Never the less, students were excited as the parking lot emptied quickly and many went on to attend the senior sponsored victory dance. All graduates were invited to attend the event. By the end of the night everyone seemed to have forgotten the defeat from only a few previous hours. As the last few people left, several students stayed to clean the cafeteria so that the Student Council could decorate for the Coronation Ball which was held the following night.

V, f fa- . r 5 fyWW.,.w,wwz ., . fifty years of tradition remains Student Council members arrived bright and early to begin decorating the cafeteria. The theme for the Coronation Ball was A Golden Homecoming? The theme commemorated the fifty years that GHS has been at this location. The theme colors were traditional black and gold. As the night drew closer everyone made their trip to the flower shop to pick up flowers and boutonnieres, to the grocery store for that last minute bottle of hair spray, and to the gas station to make sure they had plenty of gas for the night. Finally the moment arrived. The back parking lot was filled with well dressed ladies and gentlemen. Upon entering the commons, many couples stood around comparing dresses and tuxedos or just waiting to take their pictures. All up and down the hall leading to the machine shop, a sight of beautiful dresses made out of silver, gold, and many other trendy metallic colors could be seen. Everyone waited in a line which lead to an old antique car, the main prop for the pictures. Promptly at 8:00 p.m. the Homecoming queen, Michelle Estrello, and her court were presented to the audience. The queen's gift consisted of a necklace and a ring donated by Zales Corporation in Dallas. As the dance commenced everyone moved to both fast and slow songs. The evening came to the last few songs and many couples strolled out the doors with all their souvenirs, Homecoming '86 faded into another memory. Homecoming for me this year was the best one ever. The 1936 car as the background and everyone dancing for our fiftieth anniversary really topped the night offf' Colette Stanton Senior Z: cocoa.. ocean n-una
