Graduates not pictured BARTON, IOSEPH BRADFORD ROBERTS, IESSE LARIS CLASS OF '56 1956 flamboree to Farewell Dance! Wow ! We Seniors stood out in our pegged pants, neatelooking yellow cords, saddles, loud shirts, and our precious cashmeres. The Qirls clamped on to the guys' trinkets. Vife dug such lingo as See ya later, Alligator , lug , Neatie , Eat a Bug , etc. And who should hit Terre Haute but all the coolest: no less than Boyd Bennett, Big Moe, the Crew Cuts, and the Globe Trotters , Grace Kelly made headlines on her wedding to Prince Rainier ot Monaco. And snow! Most snow we've seen in years! We spent the winter ice-skating and tobog- ganing-we suffered the consequences of course. We lived in the moods of such songs as Why Do Fools Fall in Love , I'll Be Home , Heartbreak Hotel , Eddie My Love , Poor People ot Paris , Innamorata , and Blue Suede Shoes . 1956i-What a year!!! 38 CLASS OF '57 C1 it 1,-1: G1 lllfil 111. .. .,.. THE CHOIR . . under the direction oi Miss Ne11e Duncan The Garfield High School Choir, under the direction ot Miss Nelle Duncan, is acclaimed great by not only the school but the whole community. Presenting an attactive appearance in purple robes and white stoles, their music de- lights us all. The Choir was represented this year in the All-State Chorus at Indianap- olis, at the District Choral Festival at Dugger, indiana, and in the All-City Music Festival. Will it be a flop or will it be a hit? With that question from the opening chorus, the Class ot 1957 began its presentation ot Pied Piper ot Coaltown, USA, an original play written and directed by Mr. Gene Moore. The plot centered around the effort ot the teen-agers in Coaltown to raise nioney to keep their Youth Center open. Clever dialogue, music, and dancing held the attention ot the audience for the entire evening. Music for the show was furnished by the Garfield Dance Band under the direction ot Mr. Evinger with l-larry Scriba doing the arrangements. Dances were planned and supervised by Suzie Eberhart and Nancy Woeltle. Class sponsors who were responsible tor the entire show were: Mr. Mattax, Chair- rnan, Mrs. Conroy, Miss laenisch, Mr. Moore, and Mrs. Traum. Pictured above is the entire cast ot the show taken at the final curtain. On the opposite page are pictured several dance groups from the show as well as two pictures ot the cast who carried the story of the play through the even- ing. Will it be a tlop or will it be a hit? The audience answered that question with thunderous applause at the tinal curtain. 5756 291 5 1 S6 :ix Jf9', .aa N-.
