QUIET, STUDENT COUNCIL AT WORKI STUDE T COUNCIL ACH Friday, the hour from l2:00 to lz0O is a time of great activity in Mr. Maxey's room. The chairs sprout many more legs, arms and elbows dangle on the table tops, and numerous brows furrow in thought. lt is a scene of deepest concentration, it is student council meeting time. The purpose of this vital body is to control the overall student activity program. Many ideas for school proiects first come into the light of day during student council meetings. After discussing all of them thoroughly, the members cf the council decide which to present to the student body. Order reigns supreme at student council, and during meetings these iunior parliamen- tarians execute their duties with dignity and efficiency.

The worries of homework ond sports' rivalries are forgotten by the students as they puzzle over the common problems of law-enforcement, school sportsmanship, and troffic safety. With officers ond executive committee members from all eight high schools, the Inter- High Council is almost entirely student-planned and run. The council is divided into several committees, which work on separate proiects before reporting their shining accomplishments to the whole lnter-High Council. I TEBCLUB CIIUNCIL HE main aim of the lnterclub Council is to publicize club proiects and encour- age student participation in them. Composed of a representative from every school club, the council meets once each month to discuss general plans and ideas. The main proiect thus far in the short history of the council has been to provide interest booths for display on Back-to-School Night. Early in November, sounds of tlying hammers and crunching saws echoed from room 231, as student handymen constructed the display booths. Then, the proiect was taken over by the lnterclub Council, whose members hurriedly turned 231 into a room of crepe paper, glittering lights, and displays of all sorts and descriptions. . The proiect was quite successful in that most parents left Bock-to-School Night, knowing not only how Johnny is doing but how Johnny's club is developing Johnny. John Maxoy, Advisor, Midori Tanobo.
