lilllilllill liBlIEilllllllEl.llHil Plaving under adverse conditions the Glenwood Demons were held to a 7-7 tie by the Oak Creek Miners on the Miners' field in the first conference game of the season. After a hard rain the slick field practically throttled a running game Oak Creek scored in the first quarter, and the Red Devils were unable to retali- ate until the last minutes ofthe final period when a pass from Leonardi to Weaver clicked for six points. Sininger's running attempt for the point was successful. Game number two pitted the Demons against the Craig Bulldogs in t-he first home game of the season. Showing power and coordination, the home-town eleven ran roughshod over the perennial league leader, the Craig Bulldogs. lames Mulkev led the scoring with two T. D. ' s , while Weaver and Davies each racked up six points The second tilt held on the local gridiron was also a victory for the Demons as they came out on the long end of a I9-O count , thoroughly routing the Steam- boat Sailors, even though they proved the toughest foe yet encountered. Relying chiefly on the power provided by the single-wing formation, the Demons pushed to another win as they downed the power-laden Meeker Cowboys I9-O . The Red Devils often found themselves with their backs to the goal because of the superb kickingot the Meeker backs, but were finally able to pull themselves out of tlfe hole and went on to rack up their third win in four starts. The Reo and White downed the Hayden Tigers 35-O in the final conference fray of the Qeason. Scoring four of their five touchdowns in the first half, the Red Devils were able to coast to victory and championship. Playing their annual Armistice Dax' Classic on the Rifle field, the Bears up' set the Demons to put the first defeat on the Glenwood record, ZO-O. Being un- able to click on either passing or running plays. the Demons found themselves trying to slow down the Rifle attack. Rifle's scores came as a result of long plays which were well executed and proved verv effective. This defeat did not affect con- ference siand ngs because Rifle dropped from the Yampa Valley League this year. Taking advantage of all their breaks. the Hotchkiss Bulldogs downed the Demon Eleven 7--6 in the class B Western Slope Championship game played at Glenwood. Hotchkiss scored first and added the extra point to hold a 7 poins lead until late in the final period wher a Mulkey-to-Perrin pass was good for 40 yards and 6 points. Sininger's running attempt for the final and score-tying point failed. The hope for the Western Slope Championship vanished as only a few sec. onds remained.
