Suddenly it's time-out and the cheerleaders manage to rally a yell. Across the iloor, the Blazer bench and Coach Snavely rise. The players, streaming with sweat, sit, grab a towel, and listen to the hurried in- structions amid the drowning battle of cheers. The last quarterg O' Conner fouled out and the Blazer's lead has slowly dwindled as seconds pass. The ref blows his Whistleg the team yells "break". Down- court the ball momentarily is lost. Twenty-nine seconds, Schick tips the ball to Finders, who streaks in for a clean lay-up and the lead opens to four points. A voluptuous explosion from the stands and for a second the tension snaps. But they recover fast, passing in and driving down-court. Fifteen seconds-- they pass into the center, shoot, rebound, put it up again--good. Score: 51-49 Blazers. Tradition was broken when the candidates were escorted in the Edgerton gym because neither the weather nor Mr. Roberts would permit cars to be driven on the football field, as they were in danger of sinking and being lost from sight. For the first time G. H.S. had a parade to help celebrate homecoming. The floats were all but destroyed by the fierce Kansas winds. Peggy Dolisi was announced as queen during the game, but once again, the nasty rain forced the crowning to be held during the dance. Peggy's attendants were, Seniors: Cindy Parry, Gwen McNett, Roxie Witt, junior: LaVersa Goucher, Sophomore: Janice Vervynck, Freshmen: Linda Sharp. Juniors first place float. Four seniors, Barbara McCarthy, Doris Shadoin, Kyle Cramer, and Carol Keegang junior, Kathy Kee- gang Sophomore, Becky Flemingg and Freshmen, Lee Smith were chosen as attendants. Suspense mounted as the Blazerettes lined the runway to the theme. Finally the queen was announced and she reigned for the rest of the ceremonies. 47 lays The two plays this year were once again up to par. The plays were well represented in attendance and considered loads of family fun. Maureen Cook and Nobue Ishiki, the two student directors, received lots of useful experience. Although the plays were not huge smash hits on Broadway, they were appre- ciated in Gardner. Try-outs were well attended and over half those trying out got parts. The Golden Review, a variety show, was present- ed this year, the first of such productions since 1966. It was written, directed, and produced by the approxi mately 200 students that participated. 31 Q 3 i i E x ..
