In their most suc- cessful season of recent years, the gold and black, coached by Gerald Kerschen, emerged co-champions of the highly-touted Sedgwick County League. The season was marred by only one defeat ----- a black mark for the Owls. The golden mark appeared, when, at the climax of the league season, they handed the Andale Indians their first defeat, thus becoming co-champions with them. Action 0n The Gridiron "lu 1 ,. .. 5 . Mid-Season entertainment was furnished for the football team by Mr. and lVlrs. D. J. Briggs. On November lO, a chartered bus left Garden Plain High School for Lawrence, Kansas and the K. U. On November 28, the Pep Club honored the '51 Football Squad with a party. A mock football game was presented, "Fancy Pants" vs. "Powder Puffs", as part of the enter- tainment. A salute to each senior boy and coach was given by the senior girls. While refreshments were being served, the boys presented Mr. Kerschen with a gift as a token of their appreciation. ' XX I-5 NW M I MAY QUEEN Mary Biermann CHANCELLOR Duane Wiechman MAID OF HONOR Mary Jean Linnebur ESCORT Harry Gard H, -1:4 "Let the festival begin" was the keynote of the 1952 May Fete. The Garden Plain Grade and High School Students presented one of the most colorful and unusual May Fetes in the history of its tradition. Immediately following the crowning of the May Queen, the Grade School presented two dances: "Ting-a-Ling, " and "Miniature Minuet. " The High School program was built around the song, "In the Middle of May, " taking each month line and featuring with it a song and dance. One couple, Eddie Elpers and Arlene Biermann, was taken through the successive months according to the words of the song, together with the impressive pageantry and dances of each idea. The final Salute to the Queen, "Mary," was sung by the entire cast. 1952 GRADUATES MAY FETE 'Ting-a-Ling" Folk Dance 'Miniature Minuet" Colonial Dance n 3 6 at . 4 Compliments of EBY CONSTRUCTION COMPANY fa GRADE-SCHOOl UNIT I PR IMAR Y R OOM ROW I: Evelyn Kerr, Ronald Garnett, Eileen Landwehr, David Neises, ROW II: Freddie Shepherd, Anita Ann Petersen, Dale E.
