l Our yearbook derived its name from the actual mast of a ship owned by Sir Thomas Lipton, a British contender in the American Cup Races in the 192O's. Through the efforts of lVlr. George H. Hubbell, the mast of this vessel, The Shamrock, was placed in front of what was then Cherry Valley High School, now the Junior High School. For many years, it was used as a flag pole. ln the 195O's, it was partially blown down in a hurricane, but then restored. A second storm, however, damaged it beyond repair and it had to be removed. The original mast is gone, but our yearbook still bears its name. Whenever you open these pages, we hope that you will recall memo- ries of your years here at Garden City High School-may you never forget them.
