L3 s8lll81'1 EBI' THE LA SALLE YEAR is a period of time set aside by the Christian Brothers to honor their founder. The year extended from May 24, I95O, +o November 2I, I95I. These dates were chosen because on May 24 the order celebrated the Golden Jubilee of the canonizafion of Saint John Baptist de La Salle. November 2I is 'the I60'rh anniver- sity of the occasion on which S+. La Salle and two of his Brothers vowed to live on bread and water rather than give up 'rhe worlr of the Christian education of the poor. Just prior to the opening of 'the La Sallian Year, May I5, l950, our Holy Father Pope Pius XII issued a le++er declaring S+. John Baptist de La Salle patron of all teachers of either sex, whether clerical or lay.
