We, the annual staff of 1959, affectionately dedicate this, the 10th edition of our treasured 1 'nci al Mason annual, to our very dependab e pri p , Reece Corpening. We do this as an act of appreciation,in grateful recognition for his broad vision of guidance which has lead us to the ultimate end of our goal. His words of encouragement, enduring patience, quality of understanding, along with his delightful sense of humor, will remain as cherished memories in the hearts of all who werepriviledged to be under his authority . yf' nr-""" I6 Our principal received his high school education at Lenoir High School. He then attended the Duke University. After graduating from college he came to Gamewell in 1909. After a few years here, he went to Saw Mills, to be principal. Upon his return to Gamewell in 1934, he became principal. The school faculty at that time consisted of eight teachers - the grades ranging from the first through the eighth. Mr. Corpening left forthe armed servic- es in 1942 where he held the rank of Ser- geant. He later returned to Gamewell to continue his job of being principal. During his tenure as principal, he has sponsored many worth while activities. Among these have been: sponsor of the Beta Club, coach of girls basketball, and scout master for the boys. Mr. Corpening has seen many changes in the school plant - from one buildingto four. His school now is one of the most modern in Western North Carolina. 252123454 Headers of Qur Searcg 5 IEW.- MR. C.
