THE CLASS BANNER Listen, my children, and you shall hear A story of some Freshmen dear. On tl1e tenth of September, in Twenty-four: Boys and girls and many more Remember that famous day and year. Said Evelyn to Erwin: t'Our class banner We must raise In the assembly room, without more delays. In green and white must it first be made, And be sure a dime by each is paid. And so it was done, this emblem so fine, And the class proudly marched all down the line. The banner was raised on the old east Wall To a place of safety where it would never fall. And then down the room came those Freshmen dear, Singing so that everyone could hear, And the notes from their lusty throats did pour, That the Freshies weren't green any more. Up the aisle, down the aisle, singing as they Went, The eyes of all tl1e faculty in that direction bent To see if they could tell, in spite of the mighty roar, That the Freshies Weren't green any more. Through all our history, to the very last, When gay tales are told of our school days past. This story of the Freshmen bold VVill be the favorite of young and old. Witli apologies to Henry W. Longfellow.
