Nm! M. 9. 7. S. "Oh, Miss Anderson, Iive a report to get, and I don't know where to find the information and -I' with that MISS RACHEL ANDERSON, school librarian, secures it for you. Miss An- derson and her library science students are kept busy cataloguing new books for all the grade schools .... DON W. ARNOLD, super chief of war stamp sales, teaches commercial subjects, including merchandising and bookkeeping. Di- rector of the commercial department, Mr. Arnold also heads the distributive education program which works closely with students who wish to go into retailing, and with downtown businessmen .... Directing a championship debate team was the highlight of the year for MR. HERBERT BEAN, who is also the origi- nator of the annual discussion contest and a capable sophomore English teacher. Everything from pork to corn is covered by MR. RAY DUNN'S classes in vocational agri- culture. Mr. Dunn also sponsors the Future Farmers of America club .... Stop in the art room and watch MISS FERN ASPELIN developing potential geniuses as they plan posters, design scenery for plays, and absorb the technique of water color, sketching and oil painting, receiving expert advice from Miss "An . . . . MRS. RUTH BOND'S nickname is "Swede,,' b-ut in Galesburg that's so confusing! If you would be ready, willing and able in any emergency, take Mrs. Bond's excellent home- nursing course. Mrs. Bond also applies her knowledge as nurse for all public schools. MISS SYLVIA RYIN, who teaches English and American literature, is a talented creative writer and collects books of poetry. Miss Ryin helps plan the impressive GSL induction assem- bly every year .... "Outstanding" describes MISS IRENE FREEMAN, director of dramatics, and applies also to her radio programs and play productions. Problems of makeup, scenery, and costumes combine with her class work in speech to make her school program a full one. Miss Freeman lilled the vacancy in the dramatics department made when Mr. Allen was inducted into the Army .... " 'Andy, is this costume all right?" Familiar words for MISS HAZEL ANDERSON, adviser of the costume crew as well as our English "prof" who specializes in teaching reading. The National Honor Society is another of the many activities that come under her sponsorship. Rachel Anderson, AB. Fern Aspelin, lVl.A.
