"Oh, Miss Anderson, Iive a report to get, and
I don't know where to find the information and
-I' with that MISS RACHEL ANDERSON,
school librarian, secures it for you. Miss An-
derson and her library science students are kept
busy cataloguing new books for all the grade
schools .... DON W. ARNOLD, super chief
of war stamp sales, teaches commercial subjects,
including merchandising and bookkeeping. Di-
rector of the commercial department, Mr.
Arnold also heads the distributive education
program which works closely with students who
wish to go into retailing, and with downtown
businessmen .... Directing a championship
debate team was the highlight of the year for
MR. HERBERT BEAN, who is also the origi-
nator of the annual discussion contest and a
capable sophomore English teacher.
Everything from pork to corn is covered by
MR. RAY DUNN'S classes in vocational agri-
culture. Mr. Dunn also sponsors the Future
Farmers of America club .... Stop in the art
room and watch MISS FERN ASPELIN
developing potential geniuses as they plan
posters, design scenery for plays, and absorb the
technique of water color, sketching and oil
painting, receiving expert advice from Miss "An
. . . . MRS. RUTH BOND'S nickname is
"Swede,,' b-ut in Galesburg that's so confusing!
If you would be ready, willing and able in any
emergency, take Mrs. Bond's excellent home-
nursing course. Mrs. Bond also applies her
knowledge as nurse for all public schools.
MISS SYLVIA RYIN, who teaches English
and American literature, is a talented creative
writer and collects books of poetry. Miss Ryin
helps plan the impressive GSL induction assem-
bly every year .... "Outstanding" describes
MISS IRENE FREEMAN, director of dramatics,
and applies also to her radio programs and play
productions. Problems of makeup, scenery, and
costumes combine with her class work in
speech to make her school program a full one.
Miss Freeman lilled the vacancy in the dramatics
department made when Mr. Allen was inducted
into the Army .... " 'Andy, is this costume
all right?" Familiar words for MISS HAZEL
ANDERSON, adviser of the costume crew as
well as our English "prof" who specializes in
teaching reading. The National Honor Society
is another of the many activities that come
under her sponsorship.
