SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER 1978 VALEDICTORIAN ANGIE SUTTON ANGIE PLANS TO ATTEND LAKE SUPERIOR STATE COLLEGE TO PURSUE A CAREER IN MEDICAL FIELD G.P.A. FOR FOUR YEARS — 3.925 126 1978 8ALUTA TORI AN LISA SHANNON LISA IS ENROLLED IN THE COLLEGE OF VETERINARY MEDICINE A T MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY. G.P.A. FOR FOUR YEARS 3.703 127 TO THE CLASS OF 1978 Age always has a sobering effect on most of us. We each mature at a different time and hopefully you will understand that maturity is one of the most important assets that you can have as an adult. Since there are many adults that never really mature, it is our hope that you as new graduates will consider your decisions carefully before you make them and act in a mature way when you face the complex issues in today’s society. It is difficult enough just to cope with today’s rapid pace without the pitfalls of inappropriate decisions. John H. Wagar, Superintendent To the Class of 1978: As is the case with all graduating classes, this is an exciting time in your lives. It is also a time when various fears and apprehensions come to the forefront. Some of you have a certain confidence about your future direction, while others feel considerably more insecure when faced with the reality of graduation. Even though your feelings are important, there is a reality that will soon be realized by you. That reality is that you are now part of the establishment that you have looked at wonderingly for a number of years. As is the case with almost everything, the establishment has strengths and weaknesses. Sometimes I believe that we have gone beyond reasonableness in testing the strengths of the establishment. Our cynical attitude, or our belief that the way humans act is wholly motivated by selfinterest, should not apply to what we know is correct. One of these areas of correctness I am referring to is that of rights and responsibilities. The attitude that I wish you would practice is that along with all of your RIGHTS comes also RESPONSIBILITY. Part of the definition of responsibility is the acceptance of a penalty for YOUR inappropriate action. When you can accept your faults and the penalties that may be associated with them, you will have come a long way towards joining the “correct” part of the establishment. I would leave you with this well known prayer. “God grant me the courage to change things, the peace of mind to accept things I cannot change and the wisdom to know the difference.” With the best of wishes for your future 129 Senior Directory Kathy Adkins — Softball 4, Cadet 4.
