Dunithan National Honor Society Now Randy will take you for a peek at our two national honor societies, the more serious side of high school life. The National Honor Society was founded in 1929. Its purpose was to bring recognition to those students in secondary schools whose scholarship, leadership, service, and character excel the average scholar’s ability. Many young people in high schools throughout the United States have met these qualifications and have become members of the National Honor Society. The Galesburg-Augusta High School has par¬ ticipated in the Honor Society since 1950 and has contributed 45 members to the society dur¬ ing that time. Back row L. Christler, J. Frank, C. The soci¬ ety is sponsored by the teachers and students who make up its membership. It is an “honor” society in the sense that the students are granted membership for having performed in high school plays or any field of dramatic art, and have met the qualifications of their own troupes. The aims of this society are to estab¬ lish and advance standards in all phases of dramatic art and to create an active and in¬ telligent interest in this field among high school students.
