Four years ago began a new era for our school, the opening of our persent Galena High School building. This class is the first to complete its entire four years of second- ary education in this fine building. The school and the class have seen together the triumphs, advances, and honors that have come to us and shared the changes and disappointments. Now, as the Class of 1968 stands ready to graduate, we recognize the impressions that our school has imprinted on our lives. All facets of Galena High School-faculty, students, organizations, and traditions-have combined to place indelible imprints upon us which vary as widely as our own individual fingerprints. The Blue and White staff presents this yearbook as a remembrance of the im- pressions that our school has made upon us, and a record of the impressions that we are leaving upon Galena High School. W. S. DAVISON We live in a very progressive world. It is an age of dy- namic "happenings". But along with our success we, as young adults, have problems. We must prepare ourselves to become "real" members of the world. A high school education alone is no longer sufficient- we need more. We must find out what we are best suited for and most interested in. Alone, we are unable to answer these questions about our future, we need the advice of an experienced person. Parents are sometimes able to help us but many times they aren't able to provide the testing pro- grams that are so useful. The students at G.H.A. feel that we have one of the most capable and willing persons to guide us that is available-Mr. W. S. Davison-who has served as our counselor for seven years. Some consider him a master teacher. Mr. Davison has been a high school teacher, a high school principal, dean of a junior college, superintendent of schools, and a college professor. During World War I, he saw active duty. After World War II, he served in the Southeast Kansas Veterans Guidance Center for two and one-half years. He has been a friend to both students and faculty and his services here have been greatly appreciated by both. Mr. Davison closed an interview with the following state- ment: "If I have a message for our students it is this: 'strive to understand yourself, your interests and your abilities' There is a job in your future for all of you, if you locate your special ability and prepare for that job. There are al- most no jobs available for the unprepared." We ourselves have been late to meetings, proofreadings, etc. But, we hope that the preceding pages have fulfilled our promise: that the annual would be something more than just a book of pictures, standing, records- that it would be alive to us the participants, who can never again live those uni- que four years called "high school". Reminisce perhaps, but never, never relive. We hope that our annual-your an- ' nual-will make that reminiscing enjoyable. .
