MORE 0 E THA W0 Losing all five starters from last year's team hampered the tide as they pulled away with only three wins for the '79-80 season. The tide found competing against area teams with more heighth and ex- perience rough going. This disappointing season did not, however, diminish the gallant efforts put forth by each member. The tide had a 1-5 record as they traveled to play in the Richlands Christmas Classic. In the first night of tournament play, Galax slipped past Richlands with a two point lead. The following game against Lyn View spelled defeat for the tide giving them runner-up position in the tournament. Luck just didn't seem to follow as the team managed only one more win for the season, to finish with a record of 3-17. The team may have not broken records for the number of games won - but the tide did show what it was all about. The time is 1979-80 and the place is Galax More One Than Won fconffmiedp High School. Like everyone else the world has taken its toll on us at G.H.S. Head basketball coach Ron Quesenberry knew he had his job cut out for him this season with the players having less experience and heighth than those from the many years before. It was only a hardship on the coaches and players when the previous year's five starters were not returning. Each player had seen little first hand experience on the court and had to face the pressures this past year brought. Putting together a whole new team and com- peting against area teams with more heighth and experience proved to bring only disap- pointment and defeat for the tide. Coach Quesenberry as well as the players put everything they had into making the team a success. The total efforts ut forth by everyone involved seemed onlly a futile at- tempt as the tide had to deal with less wins. During the game with Christiansburg, Guynn Edwards looks for an open man.
