pread' In A Little Cheer Keontinuedj During the year, both the Varsity and I.V. squads did a lot of worthwhile pro- jects. For example we had many money making projects to help pay for uni- forms, tennis shoes, and etc.. We sold Tide Pride bumper stickers, which seemed to sell really well. At football games we sold mini megaphones and pom-poms. Our biggest money making job was selling the new sports programs. Everyone seemed to buy them. None of the things we did this year could have been possible without the help of our great sponsor, Mrs. Maxwell. When everything seemed to be going wrong, she was there to straighten things out. She proved to be a great asset to our squads and we could never have done it without her. MORE 0 E THA W0 Losing all five starters from last year's team hampered the tide as they pulled away with only three wins for the '79-80 season. The tide found competing against area teams with more heighth and ex- perience rough going. This disappointing season did not, however, diminish the gallant efforts put forth by each member. The tide had a 1-5 record as they traveled to play in the Richlands Christmas Classic. In the first night of tournament play, Galax slipped past Richlands with a two point lead. The following game against Lyn View spelled defeat for the tide giving them runner-up position in the tournament. Luck just didn't seem to follow as the team managed only one more win for the season, to finish with a record of 3-17. The team may have not broken records for the number of games won - but the tide did show what it was all about. Each member played to the best of his ability and proved that a team can be ONE . . . ni'l dd-' 1 M -A-mm,..a- ' PWM, . -A , . v 46 VARSITY BASKETBALL ir '.1,,.,,' . , ' f' ' ' ' T -f 51259: Y H' -'37 I rw iff' HH 4' t H' 1. 55255 ' Y E535 'Tv i ' X if . .ti tl i i tak sg, -7.
