if Most people don't understand what cheerleading is. They just see them down on the football field or on the basketball court and think, I bet that's just a lot of fun and games I Not really. Cheerleading can be fun but it takes a lot of hard work and dedication. Our varsity squad consisted of only three oldies and five new ones. It took us only a few weeks of summer practice and we were ready to spread a little cheer. During the season we were willing to practice everyday, to spend our free time making signs or making snacks for the players. We even went as far as to borrow a big sign to help spread some Tide Pride all over the territory. During football season, we were lucky enough to get a free breakfast on Saturday mornings with the players. This meant getting up before 8:00 a.m. and most of us had a lit- tle trouble getting there before all of the food was gone. Basketball season brought the cold weather along with the long trips to away games. Since only seven of us could cheer, we always had the problem of who was going to cheer and who was going to sit out. We never understood how everything worked out, but it always did. You might say that the I.V. squad had a rough year. There was only one rookie, Myra Williams. This meant that she had to start from scratch and teach the rest of Lyn Walker has all the gracefulness it takes to be a cheerleader. Cathy Lineberry assures us that her Tide Pride spirit will last forever the squad everything she knew. With a little time and effort, the J.V. squad proved to be a great squad along with their ability to promote school spirit eveywhere they went. i' .nz-va X

pread' In A Little Cheer Keontinuedj During the year, both the Varsity and I.V. squads did a lot of worthwhile pro- jects. For example we had many money making projects to help pay for uni- forms, tennis shoes, and etc.. We sold Tide Pride bumper stickers, which seemed to sell really well. At football games we sold mini megaphones and pom-poms. Our biggest money making job was selling the new sports programs. Everyone seemed to buy them. None of the things we did this year could have been possible without the help of our great sponsor, Mrs. Maxwell. When everything seemed to be going wrong, she was there to straighten things out. She proved to be a great asset to our squads and we could never have done it without her.
