FI E MINUTE ARNIN 1-..,.... 1 f, 14 STUDENT LIFE Matt Payne and Pam Bedwell become engaged bet- ween classes. After P.E., Sharon Herrington finds a convenient place to wash her hair. Everybody take five. That's good, that's all we can take anyway. This five minutes may not seem like very long, but for some it's an eternity. During this time, students can do any number of things such as finding that special friend, do an English term paper, cram for a next period test, go to the Hop-In, or set the garbage can on fire. For teachers, this can be a time of great serenity, but after a cup of coffee and a BC powder, they're ready to face the monotonous jungle once again. ee: if ' no-11511 up-ani-. ff f ' L f w L3 21.1.2 1 '1 -. -1 - . The game has been postponed until Saturday because of ram, but our spirit could not be dampened The results of the spirit link competition were announced with the Senior class winning narrowly over Maroon Tide and Christiansburg Demon fought it out in a boxing match. We were ready for the two most exciting events to come the game and the crowning of the queen. On Saturday night, the game proved to be frustrating for the Tide. Penalties and a soggy field shut down the Tide's defense and offense which was riddled with injuries. The final score was Galax 0 and Christiansburg 22. Excitement and anticipation was climaxed as Miss Sonia Taylor was crowned queen with maids of honor, Rhonda Fleming, Marcie Quesenberry, and Cathy Gaylean. The dance was held immediately after the game in the grade school gym. GHS students get down at the Homecoming the 10th graders. We all watched as a - I c ' Y A fl! A1 ' QB if in p ,i Q Q' G f W . Throughout the week of September 17- 20, different and exciting events took place giving everyone at GHS a sense of pride and unity. As always, Monday was the day of the election of queen, chosen from the thir- teen candidates: Susan Cockerham, Car- men Davis, Rhonda Fleming, Cathy Galyean, Vicki Hall, Stephanie Healy, Lisa Martin, Chris Morris, Susan Nunn, Sonia Taylor, Marcie Quesenberry, Sylvia Wilson, and Karen Wright. Throughout the week, speculation took place about who was the winner, but we all had to wait and see. Monday was also the beginning of the sale of spirit links. The purpose of this competitive activity was for students to sponsor their class by purchasing links which were to be later joined to form spirit chains. These chains served as a symbol of our school spirit at the Homecoming game. Tuesday's event was locker decoration. Students and teachers decorated lockers and doors with ideas from The Main Event theme. Up and down the hall, we say gyms and box- ing arenas popping up. Prior to the bon- fire and pep rally on Wednesday night, everyone joined in the snake dance to Felts Park. The pep band provided music as we chanted and sang fight songs. A Christiansburg Demon was thrown into the fire by our football players providing the night's highlight. HOMECOMINC- 13
