120 CLUBS Magic Regina Cox realizes her clarinet won't make a sound without a reed. , arching This year's Division I tpretty goodj rated band did not come by its cornpetiton and halftime shows without hours of work and practice. The band went to Burlington, N.C. under a 100 degree, overcast sky to try and learn new shows for the marching season. Althou h there were fun times to be had af- ter the hours ogmarching, it seemed pretty hard for the members to concentrate on a swimming pool while their feet were aching with blisters. After the first day of what we thought was to be a week of fun and frolicing, the jungle-like conditions prevailed and spider bites, cut hands, bee stings, and hourly rides to the emer ency room seemed to be on all the homesick mindi of the 90 members. After camp was over and the first few football games were past, the band was beginning to think all their hours of marching on the wet field in the early mornings and the marching on the dusty field late in the evening was payin off. Performing for cheering students and restfess parents during halftime was only a small comparison to what the did at the North Carolina Central Band Festivali The Band left for Elon earl on a Saturday morning and came home late Saturdlay ni ht with smiles on their faces. lt was easy to tell that they had done well, but the smiles did not even be in to describe their feelin s when they won seconfplace band of the day and a Division I rating in their class. The band ended their hard working season with a vaca- tion trip to Florida. Tommy jackson fills the auditorium with the sounds of his famous Yackety Sax. Mr. French reviews Friday nights mistakes so the band can be corrected Monday morning. Babette Holder dies laughing when she realizes her pants are caught on the piano keys. it ,N -Y W .ef s Y- . sw gg, M..
