Taking the ball on their own 36 yard line, the Leopards marched 7-1 yards for their first T.D. and were never herded after that. A 37 yard run by jackie Gallagher and a fourth down 16 yard pass from Dick Davenport to Ditky Powell were key plays while Davenport scored the counter from the one with David Magnenat collect- ing the extra 2 points. Late in the quarter. Gallagher intercepted a pass, raced to the Paris 24 with Magnenat going the entire 24 steps on the next play, B. tl. Nichols kicked the extra point. Another interception by Larry Sullivant gave the Leopards the ball on the Wildcat 21. Davenport hit Powell on a brilliant 17 yard pass for the T.D. and jimmy Bush made the two extra points. B. j. Nichols rejoined the act when he too intercepted a pass and ran it back to the two yard line. Powell went the final step with Nichols kicking the extra point. The Leopards took over on the Paris 44 and drove down until Davenport scored on a 3 yard plunge. A few minutes later Davenport picked up a bad pass from center in his own end zone and raced 108 yards through the entire Paris team for one of the most thrilling plays of the season. Gallagher then ran for two more points. In the third the Big Red grounded a safety on a bad pass from the Wildcats. Paris made their only score on a 47 yard drive in the third period. The final score of the night came on a wheeling driv- ing run of 21 yards by Ronnie Autry. The final two points were scored by Bob Pearcy making the score 54- 8 In a game that offered manv more thrills than the score indicated, the Gainesville Leopards defeated the scrappy, boot-tough Sulphur Springs Wildcats by a score of 28-16. The Leopards scored twice in the first half to take a lead of 15-8 at that point. After receiving the opening kickoff, Big Red initiated a drive which netted them their first T.D. in the 74 yard march. Fullback David Magnenat did most of the damage and scored from the 2, but fullback jimmy Bush's 18 yard spurt was the highlight of the drive. Magnenat also scored the two point effort. The Wildcats came back to knot the score at 8-8 on a 55 yard march ending with a 1 yard play. just before the end of the first half, quarterback jackie Gallagher hit Bush with an 18 yard pass to set up a 7 yard burst by Magnenat for the score B j Nichols kicked the extra point The Wildcats received thc kickoff at the start of the next half and proceeded 61 yards 38 of it on a one pass play for their TD The double stripes were crossed by a fourth down pass from the ten yard line Another pass gave the Wfildcats the two points and 1615 le id The Leopards received the kickoff and very wisely called on Magnenat Responding beautifully Miggie came through with a 63 yard ramble and six counts to give the Big Red a 21-16 advantage. Sammy Nichols made the final Leopard T.D. with a pass interception. Dickv Powell scored from the one with B. J. Nichols again kicking the extra point. Magnenat picked up 209 yards in his best performance of the year. mai, -at . - Ja ,Aw g L' - G," 4 4' 0 I ,1,- A ki ' la-. 'Wi . v ,hs A x 'Q Q 1 H 1 xiii . .4 W. 3' 'V ,' ' I A ' . gr 6 f A A-I. After taking a short punt on the Greenville 34, the Big Red took but three plays to score with David Magnenat sprinting the final 13 steps. B. Nichols then calmly kicked the extra point. The Leopards started their next scoring march again by taking a punt on their 35 which jackie Gallagher ran back 31 yards in the third quarter. Dickey Powell made a key run of 10 yards in the drive which was capped by Gallagher from the two. The fourth quarter was only a few minutes old when the Leopards started goalward again on a 63 yard march that was ended by a three yard burst by jerry Mote. Dick Davenport ran 15 yards and then passed 18 yards to end George Nichols for the key plays in the drive. With less than two minutes left in the game, Mote intercepted a Lion pass on their 40. He took off like "blue blazes" and ran the ball to the 11 yard line. Quarterback Wfayne Kidd then passed to Carroll Kincy for the counter. Fullback Bob Pearcy crashed over for the two points making the final score 27-0. C5 4 K TIGER BGBBLES GI E LEOPARD I4-6 TRIUMPH Alertness and Lady Luck helped the Gainesville Leopards gain their second straight conference win over the Mt, Pleasant Tigers by a score of 14-6. The covering of two Bengal fumbles in the shadow of their own goal post by the Leopards proved to be the margin of victory. The Tigers had the Big Red spinning for a while after the opening kickoff with a new spread of defense which netted them a touchdown on a 68 yard scoring march one minute and thirteen seconds after the game had started. After the Leopard offense was stopped on the next set of downs, Dick Davenport booted a 51 yard punt which was fumbled by a "butter-fingered" Tiger back on his own 6 yard line where a hard charging George Nichols recovered for the Leopards. Two plays later fullback David Magnenat carried over for the store from the three late in the fourth quarter with Mt Pleasant in pos session of the ball, thc Lcot 'trds were so determined to get the ball that someone iarred a Tiger back loose from the pig skin at the Bengal five where alert Leopard Larry Sullivant pounced on the oval, Witli just six minutes and forty seconds left in the game. -limmy Bush. who earlier uncorked a 35 yard rumble, scooted the final three steps for the winning counter. Dick Davenport dived into the end zone for the extra two points to make the score I-I-6. I X A 1, 5 fx 25 . ' Q'-.153 YP.
